I thought that was the rumor and then someone from Stillen came back to say all they changed was the addition of the 'better' instructions to show how to fit it and that nothing was actually changed? Coulda sworn that was the case...

LiquidZ 06-10-2009 09:28 PM

Hey Travis, I was wondering if you could clarify something for me. That clunking noise is the LSD at work, and the smaller, more frequent noises are from the Stillen (presumably) exhaust?

travisjb 06-10-2009 10:41 PM

thanks for your note... we're still working that out... yes, there is clunking from the diff, but we're 99% convinced we either have a quality issue on this particular diff or it is reacting negatively to the oil we used for break in... ie we still have the break in gear oil in the diff at the time of this video... until we clear up the noise coming from the diff, i'm not willing to assign any noise to the exhaust... i should have some definitive answers by end of week and will update then... brgds

Hey Socal... thanks for asking... the kit will be done by Redline Motorsports of Tempe, AZ. I'm sure Robert would welcome anyone reaching out to him directly by phone. He's been extremely busy b/c he had a tech leave last few days, so be patient if you don't get him right away... Hoping it is done this week, but if not prob next week. I have a track event this weekend and if done, will have a chance to put it to the test. If not, will at least provide street impressions the following weekend. I'm going to go out on a limb and predict this will be the one to buy for those willing to go with a non-nissan setup. As I mentioned before, will be dual setrab core, dual flow. I suspect it will be reasonably priced... more to come

Ohhhh, nice, we get to hear about the diff! Changing diff oils before then? What other things besides that and the ChaseCam setup are you going to test?

travisjb 06-11-2009 10:39 AM

well, first time on track with new suspension bits and higher HP... same old brakes, but should get some improvement there for next one...

Thanks for the clarification.

Just picked up the car from Redline... his shop is slammed right now, so not enough time to get oil cooler, diff cooler and other stuff done, but he did get the car in good working condition for my track day tomorrow (SAT). Also, the noises are now ENTIRELY GONE. We are attributing all of the noise to the rear diff and believe it resulted from the temporary break-in gear oil we were running. The permanent oil is much thicker. The carbon plates in the diff need the thicker oil to operator properly.

Will have the traqmate on tomorrow, so should be collecting some valuable data.

Will prob start a separate thread to discuss the track day and share data.

RCZ 06-12-2009 08:32 PM

sexy.

travisjb 06-12-2009 08:47 PM

not megan fox, but okay :)

Dee@Amplified 06-13-2009 01:47 AM

Wow..... Consider this thread subscribed.. Awesome write up so far I definitely want to see what else you have in store with this car. What road racing events do you go to? any Redline Time Attacks?

travisjb 06-13-2009 02:58 PM

Thanks. I generally stick with NASA and PCA club events in Arizona and New Mexico. Planning a trip to Miller Motorsports in July, and perhaps a few more out of AZ this year. Looking into Redline Time Attacks, but haven't ventured that direction yet. Prob would target Street Class if so.

Just started a new track thread. I will use this thread to capture video and share thoughts after each event. Here it is:
http://www.the370z.com/track-autocro...html#post90208

It will take a couple hours for upload and processing to Youtube, so if you're reading this SAT afternoon - give it some time and go catch up on Le Mans !

travisjb 06-14-2009 10:08 PM

Video was pretty much a bust - didn't have the camera positioned well... sucks... will be much better next time out... I did get some great data and figuring out where the ideal braking points are on this track, along with gear selections and entry/exit speed targets... really digging this traqmate/chasecam combo

Updated OP with project list... I think this car is just about ready for a Time Attack series! Now I just need to find the time for more driving!

Do it! :D

UPDATE: I'm done messing around with brakes... c/o Stillen, AP Racing Big Brake Kit on the way in competition gray, with slotted rotors, and Mintex Xtreme pads. I figure that combined with some serious cooling should do the trick! Thanks Josh for hooking me up!

I should have these installed and reviewed following my Miller Motorsports event in July

Yes, I am going apeshit with this car!

LOL.. 'apeshit'.. I love it! And love the color/pattern choice.. mmmmm

travisjb 06-15-2009 10:23 PM

Agree! 'Competition gray' will look great behind matte black Forgestar wheels! Red is overplayed and black wouldn't stand out at all. Josh, feel free to insert a few more details on the kit here if you like... I liked your point on other website about the top 6 cars on Top Gear test track!

travisjb 06-15-2009 10:30 PM

Another quick update... side impact air bags are now removed... estimated weight savings only ~5lbs for both assemblies and related fasteners

Josh@STILLEN 06-15-2009 10:34 PM

My blog is down.. not sure who I'm not paying around here.. LOL That has the list, and I have an expanded one.. I'll edit this post to add some more juicy details on the kit, and some cars that come OE with AP Racing. Usually anytime money isn't involved, AP Racing is chosen..

Take the Nissan GT-R R35 FIA-GT1 car.. AP Racing
http://www.gtrblog.com/wp-content/up...01-540x303.jpg

Ok Google's cache has the list:

Top 10 Lap Times on Top Gear
1. Gumpert Apollo (AP Racing)
2. Ascari A10 (AP Racing)
3. Koenigsegg CCX (AP Racing)
4. Pagani Zonda F (AP Racing)
5. Caterham R500 (AP Racing)
6. Bugatti Veyron (AP Racing)
7. Maserati MC12 (Brembo)
8. Ferrari Enzo (Ferrari / Brembo)
9. Ariel Atom (Alcon)
10. Lamborghini LP560 (Brembo)

It's also extensively used in Formula 1, Nascar, WRC.. the list is huge. For example, two weeks ago Nascar Sprint Cup went to Pocono, a notoriously hard race track on brakes. Despite all of the relationships, money thrown around (AP doesn't sponsor ANYONE, everything is paid for in motorsports), that all goes out the window, and 9 out of the top 10 finishing cars were using AP Racing..

RCZ 06-15-2009 10:41 PM

Effin awesome, I am happy someone finally bit the bullet :) I've been playing with the idea for a while, but too much spending on the car lately haha.

Congrats Travis, you are going to have one of the fastest 370's on earth soon :) Second only to tuners and that Nurburgring 24 hours yellow one. Tires and you will be very very quick around the track.

I really cant wait to see the results.

travisjb 06-15-2009 10:50 PM

Yeah, I'm psyched about this one... Hopefully they live up to their rep! It'll be nice to have 99.9% confidence in the brakes.

travisjb 06-15-2009 10:51 PM

I'll post a separate thread, but FS: sport package brake kit

RCZ 06-15-2009 11:15 PM

hehe, I got a buyer for ya. PM me....

ChrisSlicks 06-16-2009 09:08 AM

It will be very interesting to see if this actually makes a difference. Definitely another league of braking, but I'm afraid that the problem still might poke through.

miguez 06-16-2009 09:10 AM

What problem Chris?

miguez 06-16-2009 10:09 AM

I missed a subscription to that one, thanks!

travisjb 06-16-2009 10:32 AM

I hope you're wrong, Chris :)... with these + proper airflow, would like to see 'the problem' go away... if it doesn't going to be rather frustrating and I may be tempted to disable ABS all together

travisjb 06-16-2009 10:41 AM

FYI in case you all are wondering, Mike at DDM and I confirmed fitment of the AP Racing brakes with the 18" Forgestars. Not sure yet about the 19" OEM Sport wheels, but I'm betting they will fit.

I'm hoping I'm wrong too. :) Like I said, I plan to disable ABS half way through the next auto-x to test out that theory. Speeds are lower so it's a lot safer.

LiquidZ 06-16-2009 03:03 PM

Glad to see the diff is now silent. I couldn't deal with that noise.

travisjb 06-16-2009 03:06 PM

Yeah, amazing how much difference the right gear oil makes!

I think we still have a minor rattle in the exhaust, but for my purposes doesn't really matter.

travisjb 06-19-2009 05:08 PM

UPDATE: AP Racing brakes are on the way and should be installed by middle to late next week. Pictures and street impressions next weekend, hopefully. Also hoping to get the Spa gauge, dual oil cooler and rear diff cooler set up finished next week.

Graphite will be the future owner of my OEM brakes! going into an infiniti

travisjb 06-25-2009 11:50 PM

UPDATE: AP Racing brakes are confirmed to fit with 19" OEM Sport wheels... pics etc will have to wait

CBRich 06-26-2009 08:28 PM

This is great, I can't wait to see pics. And a note to self: Use the correct gear oil for the rear diff. LOL.

Won't have the car back until next weekend, so you'll have to be patient on driving impressions... next track event ~2 weeks away, 11-july

Josh@STILLEN 06-27-2009 11:45 PM

Those look sick.. good choice of the competition gray...

travisjb 06-27-2009 11:52 PM

slotted rotors flow well with the lines on the sport wheel... this setup is going to look even better with the forgestars in matte black

ChrisSlicks 06-28-2009 10:40 AM

Looks nice, I like the subdued grey rather than the screaming red.

Those are some beefy calipers, although with the 2-piece rotors I hope you are still shaving off a couple of pounds.

travisjb 06-28-2009 11:44 AM

Prob not a huge weight savings.... Josh, please post weight of BBK, thanks
