Lol

travisjb 03-03-2013 12:22 PM

Good day at VIR yesterday, got into single digits... was hoping to better my time today, unfortunately battery was completely dead by this morning... Got the car jumped and tried to run but then when I hit the track, the fuel delivery was insufficient at idle or under acceleration. I'm assuming that the two are related and that the alternator doesn't have enough juice to run the walbro fuel pump with a dead battery - make sense to you guys? thanks

Mike 03-03-2013 12:25 PM

yeah, that is probably the problem, that or the alternator itself died.

travisjb 03-03-2013 02:28 PM

thanks, yeah, just ordered new battery and will test alternator too

cayenne still working out for towing? any regrets or setup issues? is the rear sag okay/within comfortable limits?

Mike 03-03-2013 02:31 PM

I've only towed the one time, but it pulled great, plus I got 20mpg on the short trip to Road Atlanta. It does sag a bit more than I would like. Someone with more towing experience on the Porsche forum recommended tying the car down about a foot farther back. I'm going to try that next time and see how it works out. Might need new straps though, as I cut the front ones down. Going back to Road A on the 18th with Chin, and then towing it down to Daytona in April with FlatOut.

No regrets on it though, I love driving it. Feels like driving a sport sedan.

travisjb 03-03-2013 04:06 PM

Sounds good... prob better to just shift the weight vs modding it with stiffer springs or whatever... the sag prob doesn't matter unless it is extreme and front end of trailer / rear of truck dives under braking

I may look into that RA CHIN event!

NEVER MIND, sold out! on a Monday! lol

Mike 03-03-2013 05:18 PM

too bad, would have loved for you to join us!

travisjb 03-07-2013 08:35 AM

Signed up for:
Chin Motorsports track event at Road Atlanta: a TracQuest event. 2-Days: Saturday/Sunday on 05/04/2013.

Meantime, taking the car into CIN Motorsports for some light work:

- install CJ MS fuel starve kit
- figure out why my SRM isn't working (SRM light on)
- replace bracing on rear diff / chassis, and fix cross thread
- move SC oil canister lower on car

Others I will handle:
- get HDPro2 camera working with Traqmate
- fluids refresh and lab analysis on gear and engine oil

Question - what are the best SIM racers that have Road Atlanta? It's in iRACING, pretty sure... others?

sig11 03-07-2013 08:50 AM

We practiced on Forza. :P It actually did help a bit but the kerbs are much more forgiving in real life than they are in the game.

good to know... wish I hadn't lent someone my PS3! I'll start with iRacing... any thoughts on which iRacing car best simulates our Z's? was thinking the mustang

That is something I would like to know as well!

travisjb 03-07-2013 01:49 PM

Thinking about my next NASA TT... I like the new rules! http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules/t...cation-sur.pdf

My car fits well in TT2... I could load weight ballast and go for TT3, but that would introduce a bunch of aero restrictions... I have to decide now between power and tire contact patch... here's the math - welcome any input!

SPOHN 03-07-2013 02:12 PM

I'll have to come and see you at the Chin event Saturday. I'll be at AMP Sunday.

wstar 03-07-2013 02:24 PM

Nevermind, had the points backward. I'd go square setup and better power, IMHO.

sig11 03-07-2013 02:33 PM

Tire tire tire!

A friend last year ran TTB in his 350Z and did a lot of comparison testing at Mid-Ohio. He ended up deciding tire was everything. Ran most (all?) of the season on stock suspension, NISMO diff, a splitter and wing, and as wide a set of A6s as he had points for. He did a lot of testing from 245s up to the expensive extra wide 275 A6. He said the TT director couldn't believe how fast he was with that few mods at Nationals.

Have to admit, I'm a grip fiend too! Inspires confidence... especially at VIR where more tire can help a lot through the esses

SPOHN 03-07-2013 04:25 PM

Ok. I'll be at RA Match 18 and AMP May 5. But I'll make it a point to stop by when your there.

Mike 03-07-2013 06:48 PM

I'm going to that Chin event too in May!:happydance: Z Ya there!

wstar 03-07-2013 06:50 PM

Yeah maybe more tire is best, esp with your SC setup. I'm still NA and I always feel like my 295 rears are just "too much" tire half the time. I'm struggling to get 'em to push sometimes when I want 'em to.

Mike 03-07-2013 06:59 PM

295s work for me, but I run them up front too.

Sounds skinny to me. 315 front and 335 rear on car now. Going all solid bushings to hold everything in place.

SPOHN 04-16-2013 05:55 AM

^ lol. That's my plans after track season to replace all bushings. Buying all them next week.

My sentiment on this is completely reversing course now that I have better suspension. The problem wasn't too much tire, it was too much slack in the suspension of the car :)

I ran 315/345 for 2 years. It worked well on the hot days but on the cold days the tires never came up to temperature during the session. Out in always sunny California it probably isn't an issue.

So there is new rules this year so I'm doing an about face and running 275 square BFG R1 and/or Hoosier R6.

Hi TravisJB! This is Greg, from Arizona, now florida...winning bidder for your car number! Glad I finally caught up with you! I gotta do a lot of reading backwards to find out what's going on with you. Looks as if you are racing in Virginia? ...a super-charged Z? Cool! Sorry about ur original thread!

Numbers are everything

Awesome to se that you are obtaining digital representation of invisible forces on your car. That is what it takes. I did not know that you were going to spend that much money when your project started. I'm am impressed!

These read differential air pressure... going to use these to determine the optimal placement for a vent in the hood to draw air through the intercooler and radiator and out through the hood... will also use it to figure out of the side scoops are working, rear diff cooler, and how to optimize all of the above... it's going to be a lot of work, but somewhere down the road we should all benefit from the data... stay tuned for more in a couple months

Being built "now" is hopefully the salient difference vs prior statement... guess we'll just have to wait and find out! I told him if they're close, to take my pre-order... will update here if anything changes

Hey Raul, nice to hear from you. Still in Miami?

As for me, I couldn't ask for more - all is good in life... occasionally checking this board and seeing fewer OGs... spearfish sold, did you finally sell? I intend to keep mine a couple more years and enjoy the result as best I can... I need to ramp back up my event schedule but it's not as easy as it was in Phoenix, AZ when I was surrounded by tracks <1 hr.

Car is running fine - thought I had a problem with my NAT disabling the vehicle but it turned out to be a shorted linkage. Finally installing the PHUNK fuel system mod and a few other things, then ready to hit the track again v soon.

I think I said it before a few pages ago, but I am pleased to recommend any Z or G owner take their car to CIN MOTORSPORTS out of Charlotte, NC. I put Bobby and his crew ahead of everyone else I've worked with last few years in terms of detail orientation, nissan experience, able/willing to tackle whatever, etc. There shop has gotten busy recently, but they added some staff as well so might have capacity for more project work... if anyone is looking I highly recommend. Mine is there now if anyone wants to swing by and check it out.

I still have mine! stock as can be! Had my tranny replaced a while back so its buttery smooth now. It's running strong and I intend to keep it a while longer. Just made a deal for a set of 40th rays with a guy on here, I thin that will look nice. I'm actually heading up north to pick them up, but I think you're north FL right? I'm not going anywhere that far.

Good to hear you're doing well and that the cars running. I come back every now and then to see who's still around from the OG's. Most of the folks who are have insane cars now, man. I should've stuck to it haha.

What happened with the M3 purchase? Thought you had the whole international delivery thing planned out..

RCZ 07-23-2013 10:53 AM

I did, but then I bought an penthouse instead so the M3 will probably not happen for a while. Good news is I can buy a few M3s now with how much the property has appreciated. Gotta love Miami real estate :)

Funny enough you're kinda right, there's another bubble inflating right now with foreign investors buying up everything. We're well on our way back to 2007 levels.

Anyway, enough thread jacking. Back to the subject.
