Did you already do your rear window? Seems like a simple flat piece, and even less concern about hazing/scratching/etc.

Edit: also, the front windshield you're ordering, does this go in with the factory-style mounting/adhesive, or?

travisjb 09-13-2011 04:51 PM

Already converted rear window but I don't think it saved much weight... the rear glass is very thin / light

Going with something like this for sealant

Permatex 24105 RTV Silicone, Oil-Resistant, 13 OzCart, Blk

... the piece is cut to the precise dimension of the OEM glass (so I'm told!) and so was planning to use the OEM frame with this RTV sealant... 1/4" polycarb is I believe the same thickness so fingers crossed it will all work out

I may also chicken out and call a glass guy in to do the job! haha

Trying to learn a bit about aero on this car... ordered a bunch of wool yarn - going to do a yarn test to determine which way air is flowing with different aero setups... also ordered four of these:

http://www.sensocon.com/images/P/Dif...sure_S3000.jpg

These read differential air pressure... going to use these to determine the optimal placement for a vent in the hood to draw air through the intercooler and radiator and out through the hood... will also use it to figure out of the side scoops are working, rear diff cooler, and how to optimize all of the above... it's going to be a lot of work, but somewhere down the road we should all benefit from the data... stay tuned for more in a couple months

wstar 09-13-2011 05:04 PM

I used this little glass repair/replace shop close to me to replace my windshield a few months ago (too many bad rock chips) and they were dirt cheap, I imagine it's the same everywhere with these little specialist companies. Was $200 with tax and everything for the new cheapo aftermarket glass + install labor, and I know their cost on that glass had to have been at least $140. Took them about an hour.

Yeah I'm anxiously awaiting the results. Some of the exterior stuff won't perfectly apply to everyone (with your aftermarket wing and nose), but the interesting bits for everyone will be engine bay venting, a lot of the underside stuff, spoilers in front of the wheels, etc.

Supercharger kit package weighs 70 pounds according to Fedex tracking... I'm hoping there's 5-10 lbs of boxes and what-not... also hoping that jnaut will come through with 20 pounds of weight savings on the front and net gain of 40 pounds when we add the kit

Kit arrives next Monday... then install... then updates here... targeting Sebring end of month, but will be tight

good news!!!

SPOHN 09-15-2011 05:58 AM

Where could 20lbs be saved at on the front? Maybe removing the AC.

travisjb 09-15-2011 09:54 AM

Spohn, I've already pulled off more than that... lots of little stuff remains... plastic relay boxes that are mostly empty (except horn relay!), skinning the hood, removing little / uneeded brackets, NVH stuff, intake heater lines, etc

new to this build journal, is there a particular page with all your current mods?

No, but thanks for the prompt... when I have some free time I'll try to capture that all in the first post

Red__Zed 09-22-2011 05:19 PM

Dammit, saw you posted and was hoping for an update :(

travisjb 09-23-2011 12:00 PM

soon enough! :)

jnaut, you are welcome to update on progress/pics here

Shamu 09-26-2011 07:53 PM

Remember Fedex uses dimensional weight usually not actual weight. I will be interested to know actual weight of SC kit.

I have been searching but can't find. What was weight of complete AC system?

WWJD 11-03-2011 11:11 AM

Any update on how the Sc running on track? Now is supposed to be FI season. Lol

The car remains with Jspec... he has a busy shop

travisjb 11-04-2011 10:29 AM

Just talked with Jason/Jnaut... several issues

- UD pulley galvanic corrosion and bonding to shaft... issue overcome with 3/4" drive tools

- A/C delete on my car presented a few challenges in terms of lining up pulleys and finding proper belt

- had a leak in power steering lines... fortunately this kit replaces all those lines, so that issue is resolved

Unrelated to the SC, still have the problem with the fuel pump sending unit bracket assembly... Jnaut still trying to figure out if we just replace in kind with new OEM unit or try to mend/reinforce old unit

ChrisSlicks 11-04-2011 11:46 AM

Getting closer!

What is the solution to the galvanic corrosion? Presumably it is going to continue to be an issue due to the dissimilar metals. I see it all the time on hubs mounted in aluminum control arms, can be a major PITA if they have been in there a long time.

sig11 11-04-2011 12:32 PM

Couldn't you just put an insert in the underdrive pulley?

travisjb 11-04-2011 01:33 PM

Probably right but... UD pulleys are bad news with SC's, so we're going back to the stock pulley in my case... for NA cars, if anyone asks for my opinion, I'm going to tell them to stick with the stock pulley... too much trouble with these aftermarket pulleys and I've had many tech people I trust tell me they are not good for the engine harmonics

Red__Zed 11-04-2011 01:35 PM

Ugh, thought there was an update:icon17:

SPOHN 11-04-2011 03:23 PM

Travis could you please pm me your YouTube links of your car where you did the walk around. Can't seem to find them anymore in all these post? Thanks.

Currently running a two core Setrab setup... planning an upgrade from there! more details on that later

Thanks. We're still sorting out how to run the brake ducts given all the other parts moving around, but will post once it is settled.

Really really? Looks amazing. Looks like tons of fun

travisjb 12-03-2011 08:45 PM

thanks guys! it's the only reason I'm not crying about not having any (real) track time for 6 months!

Pretty slick! What pedal setup is that on the right one (left in picture)?

travisjb 12-03-2011 09:23 PM

CSR Elite pedals and CSR wheel... using for Forza and F1 but works fine on GT5

Skeeterbop 12-04-2011 12:00 AM

I like how clean your car looks! I love the more subtle builds that most members on this forum have been going towards.

ValidusVentus 12-08-2011 08:43 PM

Pretty sick entertainment room dude, you think your going to be doing any events early 2012 season? I'd love to see your car. Ive only done one event with CMS but you get twice the track time you do with NASA - not bashing NASA in the least here - CMS costs more. Im probably going to at least do VIR with them next year, maybe Road Atlanta again as well, assuming my job schedule allows it.

Chin MotorSports 2012 Event Calendar - hope im allowed to post that link, if not ill remove it.

Oh, ive read most of this thread but failed to pick up on exactly what your rear mounted radiator is cooling... another water cooler?

Thanks for dropping a note

Yes, in fact, I was planning to run Chin at Sebring this weekend, but schedule just pushed back a bit more on the SC install. They are a great club from what I understand... no worries posting the CMS link here - that sort of thing is encouraged!

Rear mount cooling is for the rear differential. Do a search on "rear diff cooler travisjb 370z" in google and I'm sure the details will show up.

travisjb 12-16-2011 10:19 PM

Jason (Jnaut), hoping you read this... return my calls bro! Need to bring this install job to a conclusion!!
