NIce! Great drop in lap time! That's on the "big" track, correct?

travisjb 05-03-2010 05:07 PM

yessir, the "big" one

LateralG'z 05-03-2010 07:51 PM

Nice work, you might have to start to take this up professionally judging by your improvements.

travisjb 05-04-2010 12:25 AM

haha, thanks, but in my dreams... would need about 1,000 more hours of seat time for that... a year!

FuszNissan 05-04-2010 02:19 AM

Nice Work Travis

Bluemeanie 05-04-2010 09:46 AM

Good driving Travis!

Dyno tuning results! good results, but still a mixed bag...

http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/u...isjb/POWER.jpg
http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/u...avisjb/A-F.jpg

The top line is with the muffler completely removed... I had no idea that the Burns muffler was that restrictive... I'm a bit surprised... I may end up just running a straight pipe as a result of this

BIG THANKS TO TIM AT XACT DYNO! I'll be going back there again once UpRev increments the software to include valve and cam adjustments

travisjb 05-10-2010 11:06 PM

New BC Racing coilovers went in today! 18Kg/m front and 16Kg/m rear springs!!! it's going to be a brick... Having the original set boxed up with <10 hours of drive time on them! Going to make someone a great deal

Car goes to paint tomorrow (scoops, interior)... unless someone has a better idea, we're going to go with something like Nissan's matte gray metallic (AG03), but a few shades darker

Dibs! Were the original the standard BC spring rate for the Z?

Fathead 05-11-2010 11:10 AM

How does it sound with no muffler?

travisjb 05-11-2010 02:43 PM

ungodly loud!

Sharif@Forged 05-11-2010 03:23 PM

Nice work Travis. Can you tell us what the three power levels are indicative of.

travisjb 05-11-2010 03:36 PM

lower is baseline with "current setup"

middle is after tune with "current setup"

top is after tune with "current setup + muffler delete"

current setup includes Stillen G3 long tube CAI, Stillen shorty headers, cat-delete, burns stainless single muffler, underdriven pulley, and a/c delete

So about 8-10whp without muffler? That's very surprising with that very free flowing muffler you are running. I would have expected almost no change.

travisjb 05-11-2010 04:09 PM

Didn't make sense to me either... Burn's rep claimed it would at most impact whp by 2-3 vs straight pipes, based upon many dyno runs their customers have done...

A few updates

1. thanks BC Racing NA for overnighting / expediting the rear spring perch adapters for my swift racing springs! those guys went above/beyond to get me ready for this weekend!

2. car has new interior paint as of today.. we went with satin finish House of Kolors Metallic Dark Gray... has some metal flakes in it and should contrast nicely with nissan brilliant silver

3. will be hitting Spring Moutain this weekend and will update after the weekend

4. Redline Motorsports of Tempe, AZ, one of my sponsors, unfortunately went out of business this week... the proprietor, Robert Boreham, will be taking over as lead of the service business within Evolution Motorsports... for those of you that follow autoblog, you'll see some coverage of one of the bad-*** cars that Robert will be looking after here First Drive: The Gumpert Apollo is a near-mythological, utterly fantastical beast — Autoblog

Beat me to it. I was waiting on his part out thread, didnt think to check here first haha anyways, 2nd dibs?

Oh and congrats on your build so far. Top 3 on this site for sure.

Hey Travis - I know you had faced issues with fuel cut on hard turns - I was low on gas and hit a daily freeway on-ramp kinda spirited and experienced it for the first time. All systems went off - no power steering / brakes / etc - waited on AAA to get me some gas - Did you ever figure out a way around this? I mean I can always keep my gas over 1/2 tank but I don't feel I should :) Any advise is much appreciated - oh and your ride is coming along very nicely!

there is a fairly active thread on this board where a new vendor is talking about building an 'in tank surge pump' or something to that effect... i will be going that route... I get fuel cut out with just 2 bars down on sticky tires... have to keep it literally topped off! it was a problem today at Spring Mountain in Nevada

Pfft, braggart.

Just kidding of course :-p

travisjb 05-16-2010 07:27 PM

Back from Spring Mountain in Nevada... wish I had video to share! we had a blast up there, however, unfortunately for some reason my chasecam didn't tape... too bad b/c I had some great moments sliding around corners in my last session... we were running the 3.1 mile clockwise configuration with Speed Ventures and best time was 2:36.443 with a theoretical best time across sessions of 2:33.92.

For anyone considering this track, I'd give it a 9/10 ! Very fast, plenty of entertaining turns with good run-off areas if you over-cook (however, beware of rocks off track and tortoises crossing the track!)... affordable and very well appointed lodging on premise, including raquetball courts and swimming pool... the facility owners are going to add another three miles in the near future fyi

Mike 05-17-2010 08:49 AM

I love that track! I did the Corvette driving school there.

M.Bonanni 05-17-2010 10:52 AM

Yes very fun track indeed. :)

ChrisSlicks 05-18-2010 06:46 AM

It says it takes tire temperature as well, but how does it do that? I guess it is measuring the air temperature inside the wheel?

correct, from the air... at best, an indication of actual tire temps... not a substitute for direct pyrometer measurement

You would actually be in Unlimited RWD with the Hoosiers so you would be up against the FX car that ran a 2:13.1 :D. Toyo R888s and Nitto NT01s are the competitive Modified Class tires.

You would be better off getting some Mod class legal tires as that NSX is at a level I don't think any 370Z could ever reach.

ChrisSlicks 05-18-2010 12:16 PM

The NT01's are a pretty decent track tire. Not quite as much grip as R6's but still a bunch more than even the best street tire. I would take them over R888's for dry events, although R888's are much better wet.

I'm with you... already planning transition to NT01's for NASA TTA classing... was being tongue in check about chasing the NSX time... my weight to power ratio is >10... the NSX is half that

travisjb 05-23-2010 12:09 AM

Updated project lists - new items in bold

370Z to do's:
- add front brake cooling
- resolve fuel starvation issue
- buy/install stiffer motor mounts
- change machine screws to bolts for battery hold down (NASA safety rqmt)

- more permanent wiring for electrical accessories and wire high beams
- install spa oil/water gauge in place of clock
- setup rear diff cooling
- weld / fill the holes on the rear deck
- shave weight on hood, rear hatch, bumper beams, rear structure, etc
- various Aero work incl. update splitter / eliminate weight
- replace broken rear view mirror
- replace broken windshield

- alignment... -3.5 front / -2.5 rear, dial back caster to ~5

Other 370Z to do's for classing:
- switch to Nitto NT01 275/40/18 corners and use Orange Elect tire monitoring
- swap to OEM sway bars (keep stillen sways as spares)
- add 75-150 lbs of ballast, for comp weight of 3,250 (150 assumes fuel issue resolved)
- remove canards and front splitter

Trailer to do's:
- patch holes in trailer... big one on side, some little ones
- install electric winch
- paint floor with "porch paint"

Parts left at Junior's?
- rear middle brake light
- one of the splitter struts

travisjb 05-23-2010 12:21 AM

hmmm... maybe something for my trailer! :) would like to be able to watch my runs in between sessions... on a CF card... any other ideas?
