Stillen Headers

I had the Stillen headers installed yesterday. Here's the link to the full review: http://www.the370z.com/intake-exhaus...-vid-dyno.html

Here are some pics from the installation. I plan to get the car dyno'd again on Wednesday.

I also made a new vid/sound clip now that I have the complete intake/exhaust setup:

Replaced the stock oil drain plug with a magnetic one from Project Kics:

Also drained the diff and trans fluid. Replaced the diff fluid with Redline 75W90, and replaced the trans fluid with Redline MT-90.

Semtex,

Nice job with the car!

Sorry, I didn't think it was all that exciting visually. Plus I had nitrile gloves on with fluid all over them. I do need to make you aware that you will need a special tool to get the fluid back in. The fill plugs are on the side, and you can't just pour the fluid back in. I used this tool that looks kinda like a caulking gun with a flexible tube on the end. You fill up the gun with the fluid and insert the tube into the fill hole, then push the fluid in. Do you know which tool I'm talking about? If not, let me know and I'll see if I can find it on the net somewhere. It's a tedious process, as you can only fill this tool up with a 1/2 qt at at time.

So another 10-11whp with the headers. Very nice. Being where you are at with the car gaining xx hp from factory is it fast enough? Or would you save your pennies for boost?

kgreen 04-22-2009 05:39 PM

so when are u going to do a 1/4 mile?

I've had bad experiences with FI, so I'm probably going to stay away from that. Although, I do keep flirting with the idea of NOS.

Dunno. That's never really been my thing. Maybe someday.

GTSpec Subframe Brace installed

I installed the GTSpec 4-point Ladder Subframe Brace this afternoon. Many thanks to DDMotorsports for great service, as well as for the installation DIY (http://www.the370z.com/diy-section-d...der-brace.html).

http://www.the370z.com/members/semte...5-p1000903.jpg

The installation took me about 45 minutes, and it went without a hitch. I haven't had a chance to go out for a drive yet, but I'll update this post with driving impressions tomorrow after I get a chance to drive.

For now, I will post the following photo of the brace laid out on my awesome quilt, as a gesture of brotherhood with RCZ. :tiphat:

http://www.the370z.com/members/semte...6-p1000908.jpg

travisjb 05-12-2009 08:01 PM

Nice ! I suspect you won't feel a dramatic difference - looking forward to hearing your impressions driving under different conditions

I should get mine this week...

Not that it really matters, but thought these were going to be in blue ???

RCZ 05-12-2009 08:14 PM

I accept the quilt.

Also, awesome, go for a drive....find a steep driveway and see if you feel any difference! you should feel less flex and your windshield will explode. I really want one of these, but I have priorities hehe.

It's funny you mention that, because I emailed Mike about the exact same thing. Mike says the paint they use looks either gray or blue under different lighting conditions, and he sent me this pic to demonstrate:

http://i618.photobucket.com/albums/t...s-sus-1271.jpg

In fact, just compare these two pics I took of the brace. Looks gray in this one:

http://i618.photobucket.com/albums/t...0/P1000909.jpg

But you can see how it's more blue in this one:

miguez 05-13-2009 11:35 AM

So it colorshifts. Does it shapeshift?

Yeah, but the procedure is a little trickier. Find a nice sharp little hill in a section of road, get up to about 80-90mph, keep the revs up high. Just before you crest, nail the gas again for weight transfer to the rear of the car. You should be able to get all 4 wheels clear of the pavement. If the dropoff on the other side is significant enough, that ladder brace should be the first thing to impact when your suspension flattens, and it will undergo some shapeshifting ;)

:icon18:

semtex 05-13-2009 04:33 PM

Okay, quick update on the brace. I did get a chance to go out for a drive this afternoon. As expected, I couldn't really feel much difference unless I did some hard cornering. I took some twisty back roads, and there's one spot that's a hard switchback (hard left immediately followed by hard right). That's where I could really feel a difference. I'm not surprised. Our cars have pretty good rigidity out of the box. I think where we'll benefit from this brace the most is at the track and on mountain runs.

M.Bonanni 05-13-2009 05:39 PM

LMAO at the bedspread and the color thing.

GTSPEC's color is a mix of blue paint and gray paint. I usually see it more blue, so I call it blue. Some aparently see it more gray.

tru_Asiatik 05-13-2009 07:40 PM

that would be helpful doing mountain runs
any chance of a group buy? forum special pricing pm please :D

RCZ 05-14-2009 03:52 PM

Color shifting?? lmao

You sir have a gray brace. Its not blue, its gray. I've had blue GTSpec stuff and its like BLUE BLUE. hahaha bray...

Well, take it up with Mike. He says that GTSpec only uses one paint color for all their parts. This is the first thing I've ever bought from GTSpec, so I dunno.

semtex 05-16-2009 11:22 AM

A pic of the brace installed, which I snapped while I was installing the UD pulley yesterday.

SoCal 370Z 05-16-2009 11:26 AM

About time to buy a floor lift? Hey, we can buy one together and keep it at my house? :happydance:

miguez 05-16-2009 11:49 AM

Looks blue! Very cool!

semtex, how was the UD installation?

semtex 05-16-2009 04:12 PM

The installation wasn't too bad. Getting the stock pulley off was a bit of a pain though, because they torque the bolt from the factory really, really tight. My mechanic had to hold the starter in place with a pry bar while I loosened the stock pulley bolt with a torque wrench, and it took a lot of effort/strength to loosen that thing. It probably would have been easier if the car was on a lift vs. trying to loosen it while laying on the ground.

Anyway, I plan to do a full write-up once I get the car re-dyno'd later this week to see if there are any measureable gains. But for now, here are a few pics.

Here's the Stillen UD Pulley:

Here's the stock pulley, viewed from underneath the car:

Here's how the engine looks after the stock pulley is removed:

miguez 05-16-2009 04:24 PM

Great shots! Looking forward to the write-up.

Wow, 5 WHP!!!!! Amazing, I'd never guess!

No time to read the pulley write-up now, will comment on it later.

Thanks for sharing semtex!
