Thanks man.

This LS will spin high RPM like the VQ. Life will start off at 7,500rpm the first year. The next year I'm going to change the TQ converter out to a billet drum and let it eat at 9,000rpm. That's why I'm going through everything and getting all the good parts. The engine note should be glorious at top end, or atleast that's what I hope.

But you know... Keeping it over built and not turning it up kinda has a nice ring to it right now. This **** is expensive. :rofl2: I'm not sure how others do monster builds.

How they do monster builds?

Popped in a billet oil diverter, put the oil pick up in(forgot to add it yesterday), used some RTV on the front and rear joints where the front/rear covers meet the oil pan. I put in ARP head studs but they were for a gen3 block... I have a gen4 so they had to be removed. Moved onto head assembly and found that the machine shop didn't cut all the valves properly. I guess I'm on hold for a few days now. It is what it is.

Found a good 7min video that pretty much shows all the steps I'm doing in a fluid motion.

For curious minds:

Installed the ICT Billet Valley Pan today. I needed an easy win today. Put the gaskets in and screwed it down. boom. done.

Looks like Nelson Racing Engines added the same piston coolers I added into my block @2:35

The heads are dropped off at the shop and they confirmed that the intake valves are screwed. I'm looking into getting some Ferreah valves, I'm just not 100% sure which ones I can get the best bang for my application. I'll defer to the machine shop on that one. The engine/trans will be going in as soon as the ARP head studs and valves get sorted.

In other news... I've decided to ditch the air to air setup and switch it up. Air to Water is the new direction. Specifically twin air to water and twin BMW 7 series pumps.

My 4l80e is back from Capizzi Automotive. Mine is the non billet TQ converter, that's a future upgrade so I can spin up to 9krpm.

Last week I found out the exact spec that I needed to purchase for my intake valves. I settled on a set of Trick Flow replacement valves. I got the valves dropped off to the machine shop so they can do a multi angle grind (maybe a 3 angle) on them so they seat to the head.

Air to Water intercoolers are at the shop squirreled away in some corner. Nothing really to show on those until the work start on the turbo plumbing.

On a side note.... I've decided to go full retard and start learning how to do carbon fiber. Most all of the supplies are in. I only need a couple more things before I start that. I figure I can start with a small item like brake cooling plates. after that I will step up to a few other items. A few other items that caught my eye are my: Hood, roofskin and trunk with molded in duckbill.

I currently have a fly1 spec-v hood waiting to be put on but... When I got my hood it was fiberglass with an over lay of cosmetic carbon fiber, which pissed me off.

Anyway, those are a few items rolling around that I want to do. First priority is my engine completion though.

I am interested in how the CF goes. looks like fun experiements.

gbrettin 08-22-2019 02:23 PM

Heads are back from the machine shop. New over-sized intake valves, Trick Flow 2.040, are seated with 3 angle grind. The work is top notch :usa:

Just need my ARP headstuds to come off back order and the long block will go together.

Some exciting news for my 370z, I am going to haul the vehicle to Auto Dynamix in Kalamazoo. My car was being held off site in storage. What this means is that the VQ and Transmission are coming out in short order. My new engine/trans can be test fitted! You guys have no idea how excited I am about this.

Various places.

7AT Trim Ring / Switch Plates -Carbon Fiber Element
Inlet Duct / Fender Vents - Finite Element Design

Carbon Fiber Element is carbon fiber overlay. Finite Element Design is pure carbon fiber.

If you wait a while, 7AT trim ring will probably go up for sale. I might have to switch my gear lever to an Outlaw Gear Shifting Assembly.
