Keep me posted, I'd want to do this too. When you do it multiple times, do you get the same instructor for continuity?

It usually takes at least 2 or 3 weekends to move up to novice.

Generally no, New instructor every time. You can TRY to request an instructor, but no guarantees.

Do they keep a record of how many times you've been there before? Or is that for you to tell them when you get there?

Is this based on 3 weekends in relative proximity, or would the fact he does one every 6 months count still?

Funny story. At one point on Sunday in between sessions my instructor came up to me and said I'd be good to move up to HPDE-3, which is the solo group. He had me confused with someone else apparently. I didn't think I was THAT good :roflpuke2:

They gave me a log book for the instructor to write down notes on after every HPDE event. I was told that they look at your past HPDE's in your log book and then basically have an instructor ride with you and test your skills. If they think you're good enough to move up, then they will let you do it.

Oh God, I'm no instructor. Instructors have **** tons more seat time than me.

They keep a record of your sessions with them I'm guessing, but usually when you register, it's asked how many events you have done.

3 weekends cumulative. Regardless of time between.

It's more about being good enough to move up to the next level than just how many weekends you've done. People learn at different paces, some faster and others slower.

I know you're not a badged instructor, but you're much more skilled/knowledgeable than I. However, I know you and am comfortable with you, and you do have more knowledge than me. But that's just personal preference.

That's cool that its cumulative like that.

b1adesofcha0s 04-30-2013 12:02 AM

I heard that if you get to the solo level with the Summit Point events, you can rent out the track for like ~$200 a person for a half day I think.

b1adesofcha0s 04-30-2013 12:02 AM

I'm going to bed now. :hello:

This. Although 3 is fairly common for beginner to novice. Novice to intermediate is generally longer...

What would you need to do to be certified as an instructor?

(Aside from the obvious obtaining XXX hours of seat time)

Z Stig 04-30-2013 12:10 AM

Maybe we should schedule the next event (I can talk about that now, right? :icon17:) for mid-morning or mid-afternoon, when we all have food in our systems so maybe people will be a little less grumpy. (Plus Chris will be heavier!) :stirthepot:

I was letting the other "heavy" hitters speak for me... :tiphat: I had a blast and look forward to the next time.

Must loose weight... wait, lets not start that again! I will give myself a :gtfo2: for this post!

My first and third kart needed the Fred Flinstone floor to aid in acceleration!

I think the SPK guy with the hat was a tool for giving Dana such a hard time! She did not do anything worthy of a tounge lashing. Just the obligatory (albeit stupid) "Stop-and-go" penalty that the rules call for. I'm not sure that he gave the folks that buried themselves into the tire wall a tounge lashing. He was giving us a hard time in the paddock about driving the Nissans. But he drives a hybrid so ... :superghey:

Chris, I also got a black flag for avoiding someone elses spin in a turn and lost my back end. It's a PITA, but it happens.

I'm glad to see that it seemed to work itself out last night so nobody went to bed angry! That was a late night reviewing the posts, and I had to be up at 5:15. I am

He was probably talking about my car since I was the lone Nissan that didn't belong in MAZOC anyway...

No, he referred to us as "Nissan Enthusiasts". I was trying to be nice to him, because he could make our lives more difficult than he already had. I wanted to tell him to :gtfo2:.

And this fool really did own a hybrid? He's a tree hugging enthusiast

ZCarMan 04-30-2013 12:00 PM

Just so folks know. The SPK guy with the hat was Jens Scott. He runs the SPK kart track. I've been coordinating with him every since we started to plan for this event. He contacted me the day after the event to ask if we had a good time, etc. He truly wanted to get feedback on how we felt about our karting event. I told him to come to the board and just read the comments and find out for himself. Okay, not really.

I told him that we all had a great time and that many want to come back again. He said that if we wanted to do an evening karting session to just let him know when and he would work with us to make it happen. I'll leave the coordination for the next event up to someone else though.

He probably referred to us as Nissan Enthusiasts because that is what I told him we were.

I completely understand the safety aspect of it and wanting to keep the hooliganism to a minimum to prevent injuries. I didn't really have any complaints at all, I had a blast.

m4a1mustang 04-30-2013 12:06 PM

My only complaints are really just about the officiating staff. :|
