Next time, don't worry about Bobo (or anyone else) not looking back. If you have a run, go for it. The other driver has to deal with it.

Be ruthless, but as clean as efficiently possible.

And remember, if you do spin someone, you just meant to "rattle his cage." Happy 62nd, Dale. RIP.

Now I understand :-)

And yes, if the lighter person pushed more, they would have beaten you potentially, assuming their skill was up to snuff. But they didn't. Does that mean weight doesn't matter, however? Nope. You are making the assumption that just because we have done HPDE that we are automatically excellent kart drivers? Lol. ****, my first run, my best lap was only 70 seconds. Second? 66.87. Third? 64.6. Final? 64.1. Next session would be in the 63's, I promise you.

Your AVERAGE speed was a full 3 seconds faster than almost everyone your FIRST run.

What I just proved is, in only 4 runs, I was able to consistently drop my times each time out (both average, and fastest lap). THAT is where my HPDE came in handy.

This is about the same as us both hitting Shenandoah, with my experience against you fresh out for your first HPDE. Except you'd need to close the gap between you and myself for lap times and consistency within only 4 HPDE sessions. That is practically impossible and I'd never expect you to do it, nor would I say anything about it lol.

So what Steve and I are saying is, you are barking up the wrong tree here, and for now that black flag will just have to haunt you :-P

Definitely not for the practice run. I didn't know they were adjustable. I had to pull the steering wheel to get the resistance necessary to even make the damn thing move! :rofl2:

It's stupid, actually. If you spin, they black flag you, and you have to come into the pits to serve a penalty. IMO, the time lost by spinning out should be the penalty.

Dana was pissed because when she spun, the guy gave her some (angry) lecture. She felt like they rubbed her the wrong way by treating her like a noob so she quit. She knew why she spun but the guy wouldn't quick yapping. I was upset about that because she would have done well if she stuck with it. Oh well... there's next time.

:iagree: I spun out on the qualifying round. It was driver error, I didn't take anyone else out, when I stopped I was able to recover and continue, but I got a stop and go penalty. The fear of a repeat made me gunshy for the remaining two rounds. Not to mention the fact that the brakes on the third kart I got were absolute ****.

Actually, I take that back, Dee would have been in heaven if he saw how cheap the gas was in Winchester.

Yeah I never got why they would black flag drivers who spun out. Mistakes happen and the spin already cost them time/position.

Black flag should only be used if driver is being overly aggressive/dangerous to other drivers not to ones who spin out by themselves not causing harm to the other racers.

Agreed. I spun out because I braked to PREVENT hitting bobo. And I get black flagged. :wtf:

I think it's a liability thing. It's harder to sue SPK after getting hurt if SPK has proof that they warned you previously for "dangerous driving."

It's just, I take it very personally. I'm very compeditive. And honestly, I saw you as my primary opponent. And it really chaps my azz (and not in the way shado likes his azz chapped either... :ugh2: )to have been cheated out of it by some stupid reason I wasn't even told. I Know you have skill which is why I was gunning for you that last race when I got behind you. :driving: I concede that your name is at the top of the last page.

I'm not expecting to be a pro at an HDPE the first time out at all. Honestly I know I will be VERY hesitant/cautious (pussy) because its in MY car, my DD, my baby, etc etc. So I will be hesitant to push... Until my comfort grows, as you well know. :icon17: That's why I come to you with 50 questions all the time.

Of course you took it personally lol - I had a feeling you did when I never saw you after the race. I tried to shake hand's afterward, because I feel it is the sportsman-ly thing to do. No matter how hard a race I run, I respect ANYONE who goes out and puts their best effort, no matter how fast they go.

I knocked out a 70 average time on my first run (69.7x was the best in Group B for session 1). And then you knock out a 67 your FIRST time out compared to like, 70 as the best in your group - you think I didn't know you were going to be gunning for everyone up top?

Hell, I saw that and I KNEW you were no rookie at this, and I knew I'd be seeing you in the finale at some point. And I knew you'd be gunning for me, because I knew you felt you had something to prove: beat the MightyBobo at his own game. Sure enough I saw you that one corner before I immediately took it back (although if I remember right, we had some traffic right then that jacked us both up), and then never saw you again. I ran a tight line for that lap after I saw you, KNOWING you'd be going for any opening. I have no doubt you were all over the place behind me, just waiting for an opening, and good on you for that.

RACING is about closing those openings, never giving an opportunity. Whatever caused you to spin on turn 1, you shouldn't have. Period. You were pushing hard to pass, you found the limit, and you exceeded it. It's not a first in racing - happens all the time. Patience is one of the most amazing virtues - waiting for JUST that right moment and preparing your line, setting up a pass not one, not two, but maybe even three corners in advance.

So, here I am conceding to you: you were fastest on that track on that day. You should take nothing personally, it was a mistake. Mistakes happen in racing, and you must learn from them, else you risk repeating them. You have skill, so don't doubt yourself.

But, this old(er) dog knows some tricks, and next time I'll be coming out harder than before :)

Watch professional racing enough and you'll notice that (aside from F1) the fastest car only wins 25% of the time. Racing is a lot like chess.

I didn't see you after the race cause I figured you were set on your plans, and didn't want to distract/keep you from that. I would have congratulated you on a good race, and to be fair you were not making it easy. Yeah we did have traffic come up and that's what put a wrench in the works because I didn't expect we'd catch up to them until the following straight, and then there we were right on them. :icon14:

I think we need to do this again, and soon. Not a waiting until the fall thing.

I must beat the BoBo! :bowrofl: (Even though they pronounced it BooBoo) :icon17:

I was just so pissed after the first race with losing my camera and not being able to record my runs anymore, I just set out to have the fastest time possible. Frustration leads to precision for me.

I disagree, especially in your situation. Tough love here, however: imagine it was you in your 370Z pulling like a freight train on a little Miata and you SLAM on your brakes to "prevent hitting them". You're going to have an off-track adventure likely, and/or wreck INTO said Miata. And that is entirely your fault.

Karting not only teaches good car control, but it also teaches you safe practices for REAL racing. Plowing into a corner like that is an unsafe practice, and I'd expect to be punished suitably for endangering myself and the driver in front of me.

And this is where the different realm comes into play. I wouldn't drive the same with my car as I do out there because I don't know the limits of my car. With these, it is much easier to know the limits. And I do for the most part. That was a timing crunch, and the only "mistake" I made was actually touching the brake. :shakes head:

Because I was trying to pass you, I didn't take the turn as wide as I normally would because you were there, and the slower cars were there.

But even still, the black flag was used way too much.
