Not much. Just getting ready for the holidays. I don't think anyone likes their Z's anymore. It was a nice Saturday and the Z nation was silent. Been that way for a while. I'm gonna do some hpde's next year. Did brake lines and all fluids a couple weeks ago. Next up is an oil cooler and adjustable sways. Probably gonna visit VIR, Summit Point and New Jersey Motorsports Park next year. I had the RX8 at all three before.

NJMP is on my list for next year. But back to my home track of Summit more than likely. I want at least 2 events, maybe 3.

Do you drive with NASA of another organization? I've been with NASA for a few years and they seem good. I was thinking of joining another organization so I will have more opportunities to drive. It would make it easier to schedule.

say whaaaa...I love my Z. Just ordered an Ark exhaust for it. Hopefully get it in a week or so. After that I have to finally get the windows tinted.

I must say, driving it when its colder than 50 degrees is not fun at all.

I go with TrackDaze usually. Haven't been out with NASA.

Would you recommend Trackdaze? I was thinking of doing a road course sometime next year.

NJMP looks like an interesting track. I went their for the first time in July for their Go-karts, where a good friend of mine ran into 2 gokarts during the warm-up lap. Wish I had a go-pro for that crash.

I highly recommend Trackdaze events! They are generally safe and are have good instructors that can help you get the most out of your car.

If you have not done it already, I would recommend an oil cooler for the track and keep your fuel tank fairly full throughout the event to avoid the fuel starvation issues you can have with the Z. The first time it happened to me, I almost had a Corvette "enema" when I bogged down.

How's that new TrailHawk treating you? Bet that thing will be a blast when the snow hits :driving:

:icon18: With how I pull on some cars out there, I can totally see this happening - first time it happened in my Z was terrifying.

Seriously, Trailhawk ... how is that going? Had it in the back country yet? I bought my 4WD truck with the idea of lots of backcountry for photography. Turns out, I could have made do with 2WD with limited slip around here. Not out west though.

I'm enjoying it! I took it on some decent off-roading the weekend before Thanksgiving. (one of the pictures is in my signature now) It did very well and impressed some "real Jeep" owners with it's capabilities. I have my first scuffs and scratches from a stump that was out of my line of sight, but it is a Jeep and I have plans for cutting the fascia up for a winch install anyway, so no worries.

Snow will be fun as well.

It is fun! Yes, I took it to Red Cloud Off Road park in Woodbridge. There was a LOT of places where 2wd would not cut it. Had a blast.

I live in Fairfax and was thinking of going to one of these meetups...also, where do you guys get your cars inspected (where they're lenient if you're throwing codes)? I think a couple of my mods are throwing codes, and don't know if a P0300 will pass inspection...

That's a random misfire. Is the check engine light on? I live in Maryland and they will not let that pass if the check engine light is on.

You should fix that. :tiphat: he said stating the obvious

There aren't many lenient shops in VA because the penalties for letting things slide is huge.

Like Steve said, shops around here wont pass you with a CEL, unless you know somebody, but they usually wont risk it. Maybe if you cleared it before you went in perhaps? Then you could hope for the best. Id get it fixed though.

Also, if you want to come to a meetup, you may want to check in here to make sure people are attending. Been pretty quiet lately.

jpkirk 12-10-2014 09:54 AM

I tried clearing a code on my truck. I did not pass. Did not fail either but there was not sufficient info to provide a pass. It takes a week or so before it will have set all the statistics in the ECU.

Cristobal09 12-10-2014 09:56 AM

I think he just means a state inspection, not an emissions check. In my old evo for my state inspection, my rear o2 sensor was messed up, I got a 15 dollar code reader and cleared it, took it up and passed. Fortunately I didnt own the car long enough for an emissions check.

Do you ever own a car long enough to worry about an emissions test? :icon17:

The Z was the first one believe it or not. Owned it for 2.5 years. Second longest I have ever owned a car. :)

GM_Traitor3.5 12-10-2014 01:04 PM

For an emissions test, there are very few shops that will let a car slide with a pending or actual DTC present. Like jpkirk noted, even if you clear the code before you go in, not all of the system monitors will be in a "ready" status, which means the analyzer will show that the vehicle cannot be tested at that time. My father is an Emissions Compliance Officer and oversees dozens of shops to ensure that they don't pass cars that should fail.

FWIW, newer analyzer software is coming out soon that will be able to see if you've flashed the ECM recently and also if you've disabled things like aft O2 sensors or any other emissions related equipment so that you don't throw a DTC. You all have been warned!

Have fun, people I tried to convince to use hfc's instead of test pipes for just a few extra horsepower! :-p
