Been a while since I last updated any of my stuff in this thread. I've since rounded out my Glock 9mm collection by picking up a 19 and a 17:
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-l...0/IMG_5312.jpg And I got this little Kahr CM9 for pocket duty. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-C.../s800/side.jpg Next up on my list is an Aimpoint PRO and 3x magnifier for my AR. |
Very nice Steve, I havent picked up anything new as of late, I do need to pick up some 9mil and 40cal rounds.. Im running low.

Good news for our MD folk. I read that a judge ruled the "good and substantial cause" clause in the MD CCW permit application is unconstitutional and must be removed sometime next month. So as soon as that's removed you guys should be able to apply for and receive your permits without having to have some BS justification.

NICE.. well thats awesome. I still hate the state of Maryland though.
|
Me too.
In other news, the Nation's Gun Show is in town this weekend and I got a great deal on my first .45: A Springfield Armory 1911 Range Officer. This thing is a TACK DRIVER. Amazing shooter. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-j...728_214512.jpg I put 200 rounds through it this afternoon and will probably run another 200 through it tomorrow. I am going to make some adjustments to the sights to get it shooting perfectly. |
I just picked up my first gun. It's a Springfield Armory XDs. Cannot wait to get some rounds through it.
XD-S Compact 45ACP Pistol | Springfield Armory USA |
Nice. Are you planning on carrying it?

Awesome. Looks like a good carry gun. I would recommend carrying a spare magazine just in case, but I'm sure you've thought about that already.
|
Steve congrats on the 1911... its pretty nasty.
|
Is it just me or does the XD-S have a lot of similarities to the Glock & Sig Saur in its design?

Looks like the Marines are going back to my favorite, the M1911 Colt .45. It was announced yesterday the USMC will purchase up to 12,000 of them to replace the standard issue Baretta M9 which has been their standard sidearm since it replaced the M1911 in 1985.
It has been reported that most Marines didn't like the M9 either due to lack of stopping power and/or lack of accuracy (the .45 suffers from the latter beyond a certain distance). Marine Spec Ops already use the M1911. I personally never liked the Baretta M9. Of course you have trade offs, but in close quarters, I personally prefer the Colt. My opinions are based upon my time serving on U.S. Navy ships. where close quarters is reality. Large M-14s don't work in the tight confines of a ship (although great for overwatch). A 12 gauge shotgun and .45 is what I liked to carry when responding to intruder alerts back in the day. Here is a pic of what the Marine version will look like. http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/...eous/Colt1.jpg |
You responded to intruder alerts on ship? I never really thought of that as a possibility. Always assumed our ships were "safe" from unauthorized boarding.
BTW, I agree about the M9. I don't necessarily think its a bad pistol but there are better options. Even in the 9mm space. I thought it was MARSOC that put the order in for the 1911s for their own use. I didn't know it would be a complete replacement of the M9 (didn't we put a giant order in for new M9s recently anyways?) |

For OWB I really like the Kydex units like these http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/o...IMG_2038-1.jpg At first I ordered a Raven Concealment Systems "Phantom" for my G17. Its nice, but production time is slow. I found this guy on GlockTalk who makes holsters that are just as nice (I have one for my G19) and a lot cheaper. --Made in the USA-- "Protector" Multi Mission Adaptable Weapon Systems - Glock Talk Classifieds He'll make one for whatever you want, so if he doesn't have an XD-S mold I'm sure he'll get one and make it. His turnaround time is really quick, too. I'm actually carrying my 19 in one right now. |
Now that Springfield and S&W both have single-stack versions of their double-stack XD and M&P line, I wonder if Glock will consider making a competing slim-profile single-stack. I doubt it, but it would be nice if they did!

My first ship was an AE or Ammunition/Explosives. All ships have security alert teams and backup alert forces composed of ships company. Marines were the exclusive security force on Aircraft Carriers when they had 200 member Marine Detachments (MARDETS) back in the day. We had to train to respond to all kinds of threats from intruders to terrorists to enviro nutwhacks who used to like to do crazy stuff. We had fun with them. |
I have a lot of respect for the Marines.. even though I was in the Army. If I could do it all over again, I woulda joined the Air Force. lol, my mom tried to tell me... but I didnt listen....ooops.

So I want to pick up an XDM .40 4.5" - anyone know where I could find one with a military discount?

When are you going to pick a gun up in a Man caliber... something starting with a .4 and ending with a 5.... I hear that tupperware gun company makes one... a 21 or some such nonsense with an unsupported chamber that hopefully does not bulge the brass out like the rest of their dreck... |
Already have one...
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-q...729_124927.jpg And you STILL haven't agreed to play Target for one of my 9mms. ;) |
