I went back to a favorite book of mine again today, "The River Why", and forgot just how good some of the passages were:

“When people are kids their parents teach them all sorts of stuff, some of it true and useful, some of it absurd hogwash (example of former: don't crap your pants; example of latter: Columbus discovered America). This is why puberty happens. The purpose of puberty is to shoot an innocent and gullible child full of nasty glandular secretions that manifest in the mind as confusion, in the innards as horniness, upon the skin as pimples, and on the tongue as cocksure venomous disbelief in every piece of information, true or false, gleaned from one's parents since infancy. I like reading, I'm not crazy in love with it but if a book catches my eye ill check it out. I just don't have time for it these days.
right now I'm reading:
"what every BODY is saying"
its on reading someones body language, thought it would be interesting to learn body language.
before that, i read "the intelligent investor".. and before that "the millionaire next door. I can't remember past that, but thats what i read for 2013/2014 lol.

Tom Clancy - Threat Vector - amazingly it's about Russia taking over Crimea. The details are different (Russian FSB uses organized crime as secret agents, etc vs real life Russian soldiers in unmarked uniforms) but the overall thrust plays out just like it has in real life over the past couple of months.

I just finished reading "To Conquer Hell," about America's involvement in the Argonne Forest offensive in WW1. The beginning had a brief history of General Pershing up to the time we declared war on Germany in 1917. Pretty harrowing.

Those are the kind of books that make you realize how pussified we've gotten since then. I spent some time with a WW2 vet over the weekend and those generations were some hard motherfuckers.

Our troops today have some horrible **** to deal with, but the guys in WW1 were fighting in trenches. Holy ****. I'm not even sure I can wrap my head around how brutal that was.
