I still have mine too! haha I keep it in my emergency travel stuff, along with my handcrack, battery charger/cell phone battery/ Emergency radio.
Regarding Sim cards. The G1 will be the first Carrier branded call phone I have bought in 5 years. I normally buy HTC through eBay and get the European models. I love that I can swap in any sim card, including any carrier worldwide.
