The New "What did you do with your Z today" (with off topic replies) IX

Haha. I heard there were a ton of delays/mix ups with the major shippers over the holidays.

Overloaded with a sudden, unprecedented surge of shipments.
Weather.
According to my brother, who used to be an IT guy on the tracking team, on a normal day (not the Christmas season), they have 25 million packages in transit.
The week before Christmas, that quadrupled.
I know that they actually rent extra vehicles and planes this time of year. I'm sure you've seen the UPS guys delivering in Budget rental vans. There's even an unmarked 747 that flies in and out of MDT hauling UPS' heavier load this time of year. And this is just Harrisburg, PA!

I say cut 'em some slack. It wasn't optimal, but waaahhh...
I sat on my couch in my pajamas and ordered a Christmas Present on December 24th-1/2 and it didn't get here by Christmas morning.
First World Problems!

and for the most part people they interviewed were understanding. Hubby worked for ABX Air before Joe Hete assisted DHL in destroying the business, but they used to be part of the equation. DHL lost all that business so FedEx and UPS had to pick it up.

The parking situation.
He's an old guy barber who has the shop next door. Had it for 40 years or something like that.
Since the building I've moved into has been vacant for quite some time, he used to park right in front of my picture window. A car parked there not only blocks my view out the window, but blocks my signage. Plus, he's parked on my building's property when he has a perfectly good row of spaces in front of his shop. My landlord, who owns this whole block, asked him not to park there. Cool. So now he parks alongside his shop which doesn't block the driveway completely, but makes things tight. And since he parks with his driver's side door towards his building, he needs extra space when there's snow on the ground. the irony of that whole thing is that he's been invited to park in my parking lot behind the salon; I have more than enough space there for his car with me and my clients parked back there. He hasn't taken me up on that offer, but he does drive behind my salon and pulls into my lot to make a K turn so he can pull up to the driveway and park between our two buildings.
This morning, the wife of one of his customers (or maybe it was his wife based on the matching Chevrolet Impala theme going on) was parked behind his car, but sticking into the alley even further. It was really tight getting through there with my truck this morning.
I knocked on her window and politely said "I just want to let you know it's a little tight to get through when you park there" to which her response was "It's okay, I'm just here temporarily".
"Okay, thank you, have a nice day".
I just don't look forward to this conversation because I just know he's gonna be a crotchety old guy about the whole thing. He's already butthurt that he can't park in front of my building. You know, old people don't like change... this is how we've always done it, and who are you coming into our neighborhood with your fancy upscale beauty parlor, punk kind of stuff.
Yeah, he's gonna be Walt Kowalski. Might even call me a Chink or a Jap.

Maybe if you offer preferred parking for him...have a space painted or signage for him. Something special. If you do that he will be hard pressed to refuse the "gift".

And if he's an old guy shovel a path for him...

I've already offered him a space in my parking lot. It wouldn't matter if I gave him a VIP sign there, because the space he wants is either the one in front of my window (which isn't a space) or the space in the driveway alongside his building (which isn't a space).
I don't have anything to offer him that solves the problem.

I'm sorry, but I'm not going out of my way to do something to facilitate someone doing what they know they should be doing, or to prevent them from doing what they know they shouldn't be doing.
Funny, how sometimes old people are the ones who weren't raised right.

I find too that elderly people can be the rudest. Happens to my little one occasionally. Makes me very irate.

It is because of the RayBans, I think.
