Being in the tech industry, that's been a constant battle in my life. Probably 80% or so of the good job offers on the table for me all require moving to California, but so far I've been working in this industry for 17 years and not had to resort to taking a California job to stay employed and paid decently. Earlier in my career it was companies with local Houston offices, and for the past ~5 years it's been working remotely for a Cali-based company from here, office-less.
