They are only testing it. No official adoption yet. A contract for a batch of rifles and ammo doesn't mean it going to be adopted. Barret and Hornady announcing these contracts is an advertising ploy to attract attention. Did you notice Barret said those rifles will be available to the public soon once the contract build was finished? The announcement was only to sell rifles to the public later. ""An un-named "DoD Special Unit" bought some of those rifles, must be a good rifle."" :ugh2: (sarcasm)

Being tested by an un-named "DoD Special Unit" doesn't mean anything. The DoD/Special Forces are always testing the latest and greatest. Very few products make it past the first initial tests. Especially if it is a unit that operates over seas. A non-standard rounds and parts make resupply that more difficult. I remember hearing about some "DoD Unit" buying a batch of Tavors. Do you see US forces running around with Tavors?

All the talk about the 6mm ARC reminds me of all the talk when the 6.8 SPC came out. 6.8 SPC was supposed to replace the 5.56mm. Still waiting on that.

Also from what I've read like the 6.8 SPC and 6.5 Grendel, the 6mm ARC needs special mags to work properly/reliably. Most people are having success using 6.5 Grendel mags. Special mags will detract from it from being adopted. 300 Blk was so successful because it didn't require special mags and you didn't lower your round count by swapping to it. If I read it right a standard sized 30 round AR-15 mag can only hold 24 6mm ARC.

Don't get me wrong. It's a cool round but I don't see it catching on like 300 Blk did or its pro's out weighing a good 308 rifle in the long term. I'm looking to build a long range AR-15 and this round is has peek my interest. We'll see what happens.

Just a heads up. Accurate Powders is having a recall on 3 different powders.

4064 Lots 2 though 16.

2495, Lots 2 through 17.

4350, Lots 2 through 22.

All the ammo is going to the gov't.

Federal wins a contact for the Army's NGCT program.

Hornady secures a .300 Blackout DoD contact.

Speer gets a DHS 9mm Luger contact.

I think the number of people that take their entire collections out for boat rides is going to increase significantly, along with a similar number of boats sinking in accidents. I'll say keep collecting until you can't and recommend 3d printers, drill presses, and the like as a backup hobby. I can also add that whatever they decide, it definitely will reduce the chances of having to repair several bullet holes in my Z for a second time because ATF rulings can magically shield you from the bullets fired by pesky law abiding citizens who decide to go rogue and open temporary ranges in random places and times.

Picked a a Ruger Precision Rifle in .338 Lapua Magnum and a Schmidt & Bender 5-25x56 PM II LP P4FL scope today. Damn, that's a heavy rifle at 15 lbs without anything on it. The gun shop threw in a box of 20 of Hornady 285 gr Match rounds for free. That was over a $100 for those.

From the gun shop. I went to Cabela's. There I got a box of 100 Lapua brass, don't ask the price. 2 boxes of Hornady 285gr match bullets, and a Mag-Pul PRS adjustable stock.

Trying to find scope rings for the Ruger/ S&M combo. :shakes head: Just about everyone is out of stock for the rings I want. Ended up with a set of Leupold Mark 4 pit rings in steel. Think I spent about 7 grand today. :shakes head:

Watched a video today from Jerry Miculek talking about keeping your thumb away the cylinder gap on a revolver. For me this is very old news but seeing hotdogs being blown up by the cylinder gap gases was fun. What got me was the comments on the FB post of the video. Made me realize how ignorant a lot of gun owners are about how guns, more specifically revolvers, work. So many comments like “I’ve been shooting revolvers for many years, never knew that was a thing.” Also comments like this, “I've never shot a revolver. Didn’t know about the cylinder gap.” made me realize that many gun owners nowadays have never shot revolvers. I don’t think revolvers are a dying bread but definitely not as popular as they used to. IMO general gun knowledge in the community is dying. I really can't point to one thing that is causing it. Thoughts?
