At lest no one was hurt and they can laugh about it. I remember that guy who lost part of his leg due to a Tannerite accident awhile back. :shakes head: |
I have a feeling the ATF might come knocking looking for my new trigger. But I just had this terrible boating accident.

Well the current administration gives Taliban all the ammo and weapons they can handle and then screws with American citizens.

Came across an interesting shooting method on shooting birdshead grip shotguns today. Gave it a quick go on my 300BLK SCR Pistol and was surprised how well it worked and how (relatively) comfortable it was. Did smack my cheek on the first couple shots but once I got locked in on a good hold I was getting rifle like stability and recoil control with no cheek slapage. I need to make or get a better recoil strap, threw together one just to try the technique. Also might look into a brake of some sort to replace the A2 I currently have on it which should help.
If you one of you guys try this, you really have to hold it firm against your check. Any wiggle room and you'll get you check smacked like holding as full sized shotgun loosely while shooting it. Of course a standard AR pistol with a brace or full size rifle would be better but this has breathed new life into my SCR. I was going to convert mine into a full sized rifle and use the upper on a standard AR pistol lower because it was difficult to shoot but now I'm not. I'm still hoping, praying, braces don't get banned but this is a great work around to give the middle finger to the Dems if it does happen. (Not my SCR but just a reminder at what one is.) http://www.the370z.com/attachment.ph...1&d=1631304434 |
Looking for Hornady .338, 285 gr. ELD match bullets. None to be found. Did find 2 boxes of 500 each of .338, 300gr Sierra match bullets for $364. Also found 1 box of 100 pieces of .338 LM Lapua brass for $277. So I got got one box of bullets and 1 box of brass from Powder Valley. Prices sure have gone up. :shakes head:

I'm not a Glock fan. There is something about them I just don't like.

Got some new play tools. The first one is a Teslong 5" screen bore scope. Always thought I was doing a good job on cleaning the bores. Found that the last 6~7 inches still had copper on the lands in the .338. :shakes head:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Next play tool is a air pump that I will use as a barrel cooler. Only cost me $11.99 vs $60 for some others. It pushes more air than the MagnetoSpeed unit that my friend has. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Last, I got some Wilson Case gages and the Case gage Depth Micrometer. Will use these to set-up my FL resizing dies to get a more accurate reading. https://www.sinclairintl.com/reloadi...prod33287.aspx https://www.sinclairintl.com/reloadi...prod88120.aspx |

used 20mm on m113 also used M16 armalite .,. (spelling) didnt like them a bit light a lot junkie Bren on tripod are fun have used hand gun on the range .. hated it .. (what ever army issuse was at the time , (mid 80's) colt 45?. |
Maldat, Welcome! Nice to see a non-US person in the firearm thread!

If my research is correct, the M16 you probably got to use were Colt Armalite M16 / M16A1. Most likely first gen left overs from the US which weren't that good. According to my research there was a short transitional period with the M16 before NZ Army decided on a new rifle. NZ "officially" went from the SLR to a variant of the Steyr AUG which has been phased out not too long ago for a piston driven M16/M4 variant made by LMT called the MARS-L. Pistol wise your were probably using a Browning Hi-Power. According to my research the NZ Army used the Colt M1911 (.45) in WWII but after WWII went to the FN Browning Hi-Power and used it until the late 80s. In the late 80's my research say the NZ Army transitioned to the SIG P226 and some time after that transitioned to what they are currently using, the Glock 17. My small arms training I got in the US Navy was a joke. That's if you count 5 rounds out of a M9 (9mm pistol) at boot camp, that was optional, small arms training. :shakes head: The US Navy attitude to small arms training in the late 90s eraly 2000s was meh, only gunfighters and security got training. That changed while I was in as the "War On Terror" ramped up it caused the US Navy to rethink their attitude to small arms training. Also it didn't help that I was in a rate that wasn't allowed to do anything outside of my job. Got hit with N3A a lot. (Nukes Need Not Apply) Especially as a Nuke ET (Nuclear Power Electronics Technician) we were to "valuable" to waste our time on small arms training and other duties that normal sailors had to do especially on an aircraft carrier. As we said in the Navy: "Choose your rate, choose your fate!" so I can't complain too much about my small arms training while I was in. |
Oh...crap.......a Navy Nuker. If you was on a sub. I would be calling you a "bubble head". I've worked with a few of you's in the power generation industry. Different breed of a people. :rofl2:
When I was in the DoD. I shot just about everything you could think of because of the program I was in. |

Favorite? Would have to say the stuff that you never seen or even heard of. The cutting edge stuff that didn't make it. They been pissing around with a replacement for the .556 since the early 70's. The one 6.5mm was interesting. The frame work was a cross between an AR16~AR10. It was inbetween the 2. Had an electronic trigger. No hammer and firing pin. Squeegeed the trigger, and a voltage went to the rear of the casing. Then it went BOOM. So much for that rifle. :icon14: Next...... This was one of the first caseless rounds. It basically got shot down because it had to use a battery to fire the round. And battery life was questionable at that time. It had better ballistics than the 7.62. |

Definitely acknowledge that Nukes are not normal especially us ETs. :icon17: The ones that don’t realize it are the most abnormal. At least I didn’t get chased through the woods by base security around Nuke School because I was hacking at a tree with a broad sword in full medieval garb. :roflpuke2: Quote:
I vaguely remember hearing about the electronic fired cartridges at some point. Something similar to the HK G11? |

Came across this video today and I figured I’d share it because it a good video for training. IMO
Great example of an Accidental Discharge, how to handle it and why pointing your gun in a safe direction is very important while loading. For the less educated among us, unlike Negligent Discharges which are caused by the shooter an Accidental Discharge usually happens due to an equipment malfunction and are rare. The shooter in the video was using a heavily modded CZ for competition shooting. The sear didn’t engage fully and the hammer followed the slide and since the firing block pin safety was disabled the pistol discharged. I have to give props to the range officer for reacting positively to the situation, immediately using it as a training moment and praising the shooter for handing it well. |
Huge shout out to 2A3D print.:tup:
They 3D printed a drill guide for us visually challenged individuals, so we could drill straight holes in our P80 kits. :yum::yum: Both my full and compact size P80s are drilled and have had the extra material removed on the rails. The only thing left to do is mill out the recoil spring channel. I test fitted the two metal parts that make up the rails and they drop in and line up with the holes I drilled.:tup: |
Do you like the Daniel Defense AR-15s?
