Default I love it when The370z.com saves the day

So I took my car to the Nissan Service Department to get my tpms light fixed. While I was there I thought I'd have them do an oil change and I finally remembered to tell them to fix the trunk which wasn't opening properly. There's an TSB for the trunk springs, but I didn't mention it at all. I just told them the trunk was sticking. The guy even wanted to charge a diagnostic fee at first.

Anyway, they reset the tpms and changed the oil, no problem. Then the service counter calls me up and there's the tech, waiting and looking at me like I'm trying to pull a scam. He even tells me to follow to the repair bay. He looks at me and says "what's the problem"( in a Jamaican accent, not that it matters). I told him the trunk sticks sometimes. I even demonstrated. It opened fine on the first try and got stuck on the second try. This is when I told him there's even a TSB on it. He tells me "you guys find this crap on the internet and think its true". I calmly asked if he thought I was lying. Mind you, I just demonstrated how it gets stuck. He says "I've never seen any TSB about this and there's nothing on the computer". I thought okay....so I go on my iPhone and go to our trusty website and find the thread. I show him the PDF....still thinks its fake and even challenges the TSB number. So he pops the number in the computer...and whadayaknow! Same exact thing. He just kind of sat in front of the screen looking very He's literally clicking on random stuff that has nothing to do with the trunk anymore. I wanted to laugh so bad.

Anyway, he ordered the part and should be here later this week. Later I tried making small talk and said it should be easy to fix and should just twist right off. He says he "doesn't know" (while holding the print out with the easiest instructions I've ever seen).

I'd like to thank this website and its wealth of knowledge for once again saving the day. Thank you The370z.com and whoever posted that TSB.

Pwned

Way to think on your feet. I'm glad this is getting taken care of. Lousy dealership should know the TSB's on the vehicle.

Good for you! I always search the site for info to fix my own problems prior to going to the dealer. I was told when I had a window malfunction that the forum didn't know what they were talking about when it cale to resetting the power windows. After they repaired the bad switch and motor, I have never had a problem resetting the windows again following the same directions to do the reset. It's so hard to find a reputable dealer with good customer support and service.

I had a similar situation with mine and the wrong locking lug nuts right after I bought it. One had broken off and I needed it replaced on a saturday. The service manager gave me a lot of attitude and didn't want to look at the tsb. I went around to the dealership GM who wanted to see my car after my initial mods anyway and told him to come look and why I was there, that per the TSB they had the wrong lugnuts on the car and also that upon delivery, they were only finger tight. The service guy still didn't want to look at the TSB, but after the GM gave me a loaner car, I got a very apologetic phone call from the service guy, calling me sir and telling my car was fixed and ready to go. I think he got a little talking to.

Seriously, I'm always courteous to these guys. I don't think its asking all that much to be treated with some respect. Are TSB's suppose to only be available to Nissan or something? I'm not a mechanic, but to be honest, sometimes I think I know more about this car than some of the tech's working at this Nissan dealership. The icing on the cake was the service rep asking if I wanted a complimentary tire rotation. I said "no thanks, that's not possible." He just looked confused and said "are you sure, it's free with your maintenance plan."

I also think it had a lot to do with the way I looked. I'm 32 years old but get mistaken for someone younger than 25 all the time. He probably thought I was just some kid who's parents bought him a sports car. The long line of Altima's and Sentra's also worry me every time I bring my car there.

Mine does this as well, and this is precisely why I don't even bother with going in to get it fixed by them.

Honestly, if a Vendor like Z1 or someone else could get these where we could order direct and just do it ourselves in the driveway, I'd be all for that. Rather than letting those knuckledraggers work on my car.

I was thinking of just buying the damn springs myself, but they're about $60 for the pair and it's still under warranty.
