Espresso machine modding

Nice! I have the same machine, use it daily for years. What did the kit cost you and how much better is it working now?

Taste is purely subjective but it did make a less bitter espresso using the same beans and grind. Temperature stability is very key when it comes to making espresso. The really high end machines use a PID in one way or another. The PID keeps the temperatures pretty solid compared to the high/low click/clack relays.
Everything I did was around $250.

Well thanks for the info. I've seen a lot of guys do this mod, just never looked into it much. I'm familiar with the affects of temp on bearing, I usually just temp surf mine but it does get old always playing the game with the light. I also roast my own coffee which is really rewarding. It would be nice to have the pid for good temp controll. I may go on and do this now that the warranty is out on my machine.
