More appropriate answer is, thats what happens when your good track pads run out, and you decide to run shitty Autozone Wearever brake pads on a hard track day

Thats about 3 25-minute sessions worth of abuse, btw. Started a nice fire, and his caliper was destroyed.

Wow, you'd think you'd notice something's not right with the braking and stop the car before you got to that point

Actually there was no warning at all - it went from stopping "normally", to that very suddenly when he had a hard braking zone (naturally). I think a lot what caused the pad to bend around the piston happened after he pulled off and someone found his brakes on fire, so an instructor grabbed his car and drove it around the parking lot without touching the brakes to cool em down.

Shook the guy up a little, to say the least.

So the moral of the story is don't track AT ALL with cheap pads? Got it. That is ugly.

Well, considering he's my buddy and we KNEW the pads would barely last a track day (actually, I bet it'd last 2 sessions - they went on the 3rd session)...yes, I'd say so.
