Default Speeding Ticket Question

Soo yesterday my girlfriend and I were out on some older country roads not really payin attention and just riding and i got popped by a state trooper for 69 in a 45.. now ive heard for years that if the info on your ticket is wrong that the ticket may be dismissed.. after the cop talked to me about how awesome the car was and how much fun it must be out on the back roads and the normal hater cop stuff he presented me with my ticket.... for a 2011 nissan 350Z... yes 350Z, so whats the chances of geting outta this one??? Thanks in advance!

Your chances are slim to none. It cracks me up when people who actually are speeding and then get caught try anything they can to get out of it. You did it. You got caught. Pay the fine. Invest in a quality radar detector and be more vigilant.

There's no chance for this one.

Pretty low based on the wrong model section.

Tickets on twisters often have a tough time holding up in court though.

So how fast were you really going? 69? Sounds like this cop was giving you a break by deliberately writing it for just under 70, because in many jurisdictions, once you exceed the speed limit by 25mph or more, it gets ugly (e.g., mandatory arrest and impound in some areas).

If the consequences are negligable, just pay the ticket and be more mindful next time. If it increases your already high insurance or prevents you from driving altogether, then you should fight the ticket. You won't get away with it because of typo, but you might get away with it if the cop doesn't show up to court. You might even get it reduced to a lesser violation.

I heard that if you over pay the fine by a few dollars it satisfies the court. They then send you a refund check of the difference. If you don't cash the check it is never closed out on the books and it doesn't get reported on your record........Worth a try

Interesting. I've never heard that one before.

I haven't heard it either. The check probably has an expiration date, so I'm assuming after expiry it is closed out.

If you don't want points, hire a lawyer. Trust me on this one.

If you have a relatively clean driving record and hire a lawyer, you probably have a good chance at getting the ticket reduced and no points.

plead not guilty on the ticket and go to the pre hearing where the judge will almost always offer you reduced fine and points. I had an 85 in 55 reduced to a 3 point violation (would have been 6).

No need for a lawyer if you have a clean record. I have had success with just being humble and honest while asking the court for a reduction in the fine. I haven't had to do this for a while but I always got a reduction and even got it dismissed once.

If you have a clean record contact the DA office. Here in Kansas they will reduce it to a non moving violation AKA: parking ticket. The hitch is that you pay a double fine amount plus court cost. Also, you cannot get another speeding ticket for 12 months. In the grand scheme of local courts and law inforcement its all about generating revenue and oh yeah..... keeping the roads safe!

If your state does not allow that option then hire an attorney. Good luck.
