Some (most/all?) PS3 games install part of the game onto the HD for faster loading times. I remember when I first played MGS4, there was an initial install that took a few minutes but from then on there were none or only a few.

I know Halo:Reach loads up faster once installed on the HD of the 360 but I'm not sure if all 360 games function like this.

The PS3 was designed to have a min. 10 year life cycle, so a new one is more like 4-5 years away since the PS3 came out in 2006. I think the same goes for the XBox 360.
