It is with unspeakable sadness and a river of tears that I have the misfortune to say that after a brutal 7 1/2 month battle I have lost my beautiful girl Lilah to hemangiosarcoma.

She was the best friend I have ever had and for the seven years of her life she was my constant companion. Putting her to sleep is by far the most difficult decision I have ever made, but as painful as it is I am grateful that I could ease her suffering and it is a blessing that I could hold her at the end.

My wife says that if love alone could keep a dog going Lilah would have lived forever. No words spoken were ever truer. Lilah radiated happiness all around her and just her simple presence made the world a better, brighter place. It is my deepest hope that she understood just how much joy she brought to everyone she came in contact with and just how deeply she will be missed.

Goodbye, Lilah. You were the best dog I could have ever hoped for. Life will never be the same.

“The reality is that you will grieve forever. You will not ‘get over’ the loss of a loved one; you will learn to live with it. You will heal and you will rebuild yourself around the loss you have suffered. You will be whole again but you will never be the same. Nor should you be the same nor would you want to.” ― Elisabeth Kübler-Ross

All too true.

This isn't the first time I've had to go through the K-R stages over a loved one...but I'll be damned if this wasn't the hardest. Hemangiosarcoma is a real bastard of a disease.
