GT Academy starts tomorrow i think its a 8 week long competition

i hope some of you will participate so we can all keep track of how everyone is doing

i made some changes to my racing cockpit last time i posted i had the fanatec CSR but i sold it because 1 i got tired of Forza really quick and could better use the $400 so i broke back out my trusty DFGT added the granturgismo carbon paddel and face dress up kit and then added some headphones to the rig

I can't either...but I can do donuts. A lot of it has to do with how the car is set up also.

quick question for you guys. What wheels are you using? I want to get a wheel and I know GT acedemy (if you make it to the finals) will only use the Logitech Driving Force GT wheel.

That one only has gas and brake pedals (no manual). However, it's much cheaper than say the Logitech G27 (which I really like but it's $$$). Any suggestions?

Cmike2780 05-01-2012 10:36 AM

Are there any car packs coming out anytime soon?

Alchemy 05-01-2012 10:40 AM

G25/27 is a great wheel. The quality and feel far surpasses the DFGT wheel. I personally use the DFGT wheel though and have tons of fun with it. I have had it for years and beat the hell outta it weekly. Still holding up. For the price it cant be beat!!!! Best money/accessory i have bought for my ps3

On the topic of drifting, I do a lot of it and have some awesome custom tracks. Im pretty good and so is a friend of mine. Its all about the right setup and the right car. My favs are the Viper GTS and the Silvia K Dia selection.

Is driving MT using the G25/g27 realistic in feel and how the car engages, because if it's not then I'm not sure if it's worth it. I did hear it's a great wheel in feel and quality though

Also, The DFGT wheel, if you select MT for a car, how does that work?

The DFGT has paddle shifter and a sequential gearbox. The 25/27 have a six speed which require propper use of the clutch or you miss the gear. You can also stall it. Only prob is the gearbox feels cheap. Needs to feel more solid. Esp cause the rest of the wheel feels so bulletproof.

Can't wait!

ZMan8 05-01-2012 02:10 PM

back to the wheel discussion I found the DF GT wheel for $99 on both amazon and best buy. I have $50 gift card to best buy so really that wheel would only cost me $50. is $99 the normal price or do they occasionally go on sale??

The G27 wheel is $230 on amazon. Is this a good price?

Also, for the hard core guys, eventually I would want a stand for the wheel and pedals + seat that resembles a car better. Any recommendatoins that don't involve spending a fortune (some I saw go for $600). For the time being I will attach the wheel to a desk and pedals on the floor up against the wall.

Alchemy 05-01-2012 02:48 PM

Both of those prices are darn good ZMan!!!

tough choice! I wonder if should get the GT wheel for now and learn on it while being in budget and then upgrade to a g27 in the future if I want to (then I can do split player with 2 wheels)

I can't apply the bb gift card to the g27 because best buy doesn't seem to carry them.

MC 05-01-2012 05:41 PM

the G27 is a higher quality wheel but with the DFGT you can switch settings in race and it has the cool GT logo i liked it really for those 2 reasons... and for $30 you can get the paddels that are made by granturgismo.com

to me i would use the gift card and get the DFGT for $50

:tiphat: Thanks for the advice! I think I'll just get that for now and see how it goes.

Thanks MC and Alchemy, rep coming your way

Another thing to consider is how you set it up ZMan. I know not everyone has the money to throw away on driving setups. But, how the wheel is mounted and how your seating makes all the difference. I have a similar setup as MC and while it wasnt cheap it makes the experience all the better. If you are handy, like Eric, you can even build your own.

Isamu 05-01-2012 08:36 PM

I wish I had room for a sweet setup... ;(

Yeah eventually I want to get a setup like you guys. Any recommended seats/stand combos?

Btw I'm adding you guys so we can follow eachothers progress :)

The DFFGR is a good wheel and cheap, but there is no clutch pedal. The G27 is quite a step up. If you need Xbox compatibility the Fanatec CSR wheel and pedal combo is excellent, but pricey. I use the Playseat Revolution -- a good seat, but others are nice as well. Earlier in this thread there was some pictures of some home built rigs.

:tiphat: Don't have xbox so that's not an issue. Ill test out the DFGT wheel at see how I like it. for $50 it's not a bad deal. Then later may upgrade to G27 if I get more serious. I'll check out the seat

You could always try looking for the G27 on Ebay.

true, but it's hard to tell on ebay how hard the previous owner used the wheel/pedals. Plus it seems like it's pointless to by the g27 and attach it too a desk. I think one day I'll just get the full setup (g27, seat / stand)

Eric 05-02-2012 10:49 AM

I bought a refurbished G27 directly from Logitech.com for $199. It was missing a plastic screw so they ended up just sending me a new G27.

Alchemy 05-02-2012 10:51 AM

For $50 the DFGT is a STEAL!!! Prob the best $50 you will ever spend.

Just build your own chassis. I spend around $100 building mine.

I would still need to find a seat and my only complaint would be portability, but I may consider it as a "summer project"

ZMan8 05-02-2012 11:01 AM

so how you guys like the first 2 rounds. I have done all 5 events in round 1, and 1 event in round 2.

Alchemy 05-02-2012 11:05 AM

Just did round 1 and some of 2. The academy is way dif than last year with all these drivers licence like tests this time around. Get me to the time trials!!
