Then I would definitely go with the color. White shirts and suits are for CEO's getting their glamor shots for the company website.

A "manliness of cocktails" debate is like an auto/manual debate, the argument is older than the hills, and won't get solved on this forum.

It's weird the things we pick out to be "manly." I could say that since I shave with a straight razor, I'm manlier than these plastic blade *******, or since I live in Phoenix where it can get 120 degrees, I'm manlier than people who have nice california weather.

Aside from that, who does drinking straight alcohol make one manlier to, other guys? Because while a chick is likely to giggle if you order a "skinny tini," I don't know any chick who wouldn't think well of you ordering an old fashioned, white russian, rusty nail, etc. Since 90% of my decisions are based on "will this increase my chances of having sex or making money?" I am more than happy to occasionally please my pallet with the many combinations of cocktails. Label me what you will

The gray definitely does soften it up when compared to black.

On a hot day out on the yacht, if I order a rum and tonic, I seriously doubt anyone is going to challenge my manhood over it

I'd go so far as to say that the toughest guy in the bar is the one who walks in, and orders a "merry berry martini" like he owns the fuckin place

You know what I'd agree with you. Though it also depends on the clientele of the bar.

I made a Manhattan the other night using Russell's Reserve Rye, single barrel aged. I challenge anyone to say that's not a man's drink, just because it ain't straight

Manhattans are supposedly wildly popular with the mob, or at least were in the mob's better days. I'd love for someone to go to one of them and tell them it's a girly drink

A white shirt is classic. For any sort of special event I always look to the white shirt with a solid tie. It just looks right.

But for the day to day there's nothing wrong with color. Just stay away from bright colors. Bright yellows, pinks, and greens usually look pretty terrible, but in pastel they look nice.

Dark shirts can look good in a suit, but only rarely imo. For day to day work, you end up looking like a pimp, and not in a good way. I know guys where I work that wear the whole colorful suit, dark shirt and tie, fedora, hankie... Seriously, you're looking around the corner for the hoochie train.

This is true. Dark colors generally look too pimpish and unprofessional.
