After retirement. I worked at Home Depot for 4 years. If we see seen someone stealing stuff. We wasn't allowed to touch them. We were told just to walk up to them and asked if they needed help in finding something. In the hope that them would notice that they were seen stealing.

We had a group that would come in around 8:30am, just before we would open the gate up to the garden center. They would grab a buggy and load up with cordless power tools and accessories. And head to garden center. We would open up the gate at 9am. We wouldn't have a cashier there until around 9:15. They thieves would run around pushing the loaded buggy to a waiting car parked in front of the garden center with the trunk open. They would basically throw the whole buggy into the trunk. And take off. This happened about once every 2 months.

In California the cops won’t even take a police report if the thefts are under $1000. So the thieves keep their loot under the cap and go scot free.

The TP thing started years ago with Johnny Carson one night. On his show. He was joking around and said that there was a TP shortage. People the next day cleaned the shelves out. The shelves were empty for over a week or so.

The TP and cleaning sections were wiped clean for months out, like a year before we started seeing replenishment in my area. Wal-Mart, Publix, Costco, CVS, Walgreens, etc. were all out. Then came the meat section where this was wiped clean for a few months.

https://www.cnn.com/2023/04/11/busin...ook/index.html

"IMF: Banking crisis boosts risks and dims outlook for world economy."

"Already, the global economy was grappling with the consequences of high and persistent inflation, the rapid rise in interest rates to fight it, elevated debt levels and Russia’s war in Ukraine. Now, concerns about the health of the banking industry join the list. 'These forces are now overlaid by, and interacting with, new financial stability concerns,' the IMF said, noting that policymakers trying to tame inflation while averting a 'hard landing,' or a painful recession, 'may face difficult trade-offs.'"

"In a separate report published Tuesday, the IMF said that while the rapid increase in interest rates was straining banks and other financial firms, there were fundamental differences from the 2008 global financial crisis. Banks now have much more capital to be able to withstand shocks. They also have curbed risky lending due to stricter regulations."

One of the very few times where I will say an article does hit on the key points somewhat accurately. There is a recession coming, no question about it. Esp. Millennials, when "recession" is heard, they think of 2008, and this upcoming recession won't be as bad as the Great Recession, but people will still feel the effects of it. And notice how they mentioned "hard landing", when the higher ups from the Feds and Treasury still talk about a "soft landing".

Just making a general observation. If you look at the attached picture with the coins that are generally used the most, you will find the Quarter (Washington), Nickel (Jefferson), and Dime (FDR) all face to the left, while the Penny (Lincoln) faces the right. Also, the first 3 coins are all silver in color, whereas the last is brown. And what was the major thing Lincoln did? Just saying.

Then recently, they changed on some of the coins the directions in which they face.

I remember during a visit to Publix and first seeing these signs (attached), I asked the store manager specifically what the policy was. There was a limit obviously, but how long did this limit last? For example, if I bought and left the store, then came back later that day, would I be able to purchase 2 more? He said as long as I physically left the store and came back, I could do this as many times as I wanted.

So I did exactly that. Bought my 2, left, came back - rinse and repeat.

On the 5th visit, one of the cashiers apparently ratted me out to the customer service manager. After I checked out/paid and headed for the door, he flagged me down and said I would need to return them for a refund. I told him to speak with his store manager, as he was the one that told me I could do this. I guess he got butt hurt that I wouldn't oblige so he started raising his voice and further demanded that I return them. I told him I've already paid and this is legally my property, and told him in a nice way to go pound salt. As I was walking out, he then screamed for me to never return to the store.

I called and spoke with the store manager, informing him of what happened, as well as the corporate office. Even their corporate office echoed the same message on what the store manager told me to do. I informed both of them that I didn't need an apology from them, but rather an apology from that CS Manager. Of course, my nature is that I absolutely had to get that apology out of spite and principle.

I wanted to make another rinse/repeat trip on another day and called the store to see if he was working that day. I could tell that he was watching me on the way out and on my last trip, I looked at him and asked him if I needed to return these and then told him I'd be back in 2 minutes.
