I really should make a DIY for shift knob removal. Wrap the thing in e-tape with a whole roll. Then wrap over the e-tape with gaffer's tape until it's the size of your fist. Then buy the big pipe wrench from HF for $20 and have at it.

I put a shop rag over the knob. Wrapped duct tape around the knob. And used a strap wrench.

I broke two strap wrenches and it took visegrips on shaft and pipe wrench on the knob to break it loose.

I tried 2 different strap wrenches, wouldn't budge. I used a 3' pipe wrench and I needed the pipe wrench all the way until the last thread. My 2014, it came off by hand.

Think it depends on the day, time of day, and if the guy is hung over or not. As to how much lock tite goes on the threads.
