I don't believe anything racist or xenophobic was said.

There was a Bradley Fighting Vehicle about 20 meters to my right. I saw their ramp drop, thinking they were gonna deploy some infantry. Nope. The track commander came out with a shovel, and a folding lawn chair with a hole cut in the mesh. He dug a shallow hole, set the lawn chair above it, sat down, light a cigar, proceeded to take a dump, and read the paper...in the middle of an engagement...:roflpuke2: |

And let's not be rash... there are those that deserve the vacation :iagree: |

Fixed. I am sorry, but I just don't understand your comment about me speaking perfect English and me not knowing what QuZang meant. Feel free to clue me in. |

This associates every Chinese to covid19, it carries a xenophobic undertone on blaming every single Chinese for the outbreak. Perhaps it’s genuinely just a light hearted joke. For some others, it’s the type of words they hear while suffering from hate crimes, whether it’s dirty looks or a beating. This is how I felt when I read the comment. This is subjective. |

I don't think the words "coronavirus" or "COVID-19" themselves associates with Chinese people, but because of where this virus originated from, that's where people think it's Chinese. A virus knows no borders/ethnicities, and has no nationality lmao. Like hurricanes, the ones we get in Florida originate in the Atlantic ocean, and very VERY close to the central west part of Africa. This doesn't automatically make them African hurricanes. |

So I if said I don't speak Chinese everything would be good? Lesson learned - people over react. Still don't understand what English has to do with me not speaking Chinese. |

Maybe I should be offended at every Polish joke out there. Or the guys from WV should be offended about joke about them. But we're not. We laugh with them.

It’s not overreaction, it’s just different perspective based on different experience. You were saying Chinese is the official language of Covid19 because it originated it China. Nixin is saying it was brought to China by the US. |

Seriously? Where did he get that info? |

Reverse xenophobia most likely.

What do you call a farmer in WV with a sheep under each arm? A pimp. |
Wuhan..chinese... covid... all legitimate ways of referring to the virus. Viruses are traditionally referred to by the region of origin. There was NOTHING racist about it, until MSM made it so in order to attack the current administration...
|
Back on topic... OP... the question isnt where to get the tail lights, but rather... WHY??? Lol

I dont want to clog up this thread anymore than it is. I posted a video in the Corona Virus thread
|
My opinion is not based on the media.
No harm done. I am merely pointing to others, that while you guys may not have racist intents, plenty that utter the same words do, so we can’t just discount the heightened sensitivity from some, even if they are in the minority. That’s all. |

Wow I actually didn’t this debate was going on in the public. I don’t subscribe to cable at at all, so I wasn’t aware of this until now.
No wonder things got a little hot in the other thread. |

What ever happened to the the "farmersonly.com" commercials? Miss those... :shakes head: |
It is very common to name disasters of all sorts after the region where they do the most damage or are first detected. Eg, Spanish Flu, Ebola, etc. I see nothing racist about calling it the Wuhan Flu. If it had started in Chicago, London, or Kiev, we'd have probably named it after those places. YMMV

On a separate topic, I also hear people associate the term "coronavirus" as strictly the one that originated from China, when, in fact, there have been other previous strands of the coronavirus, and the term "coronavirus" is a general term. |
Quote:
I also think the terms used by government officials (i.e. "Kung Flu", "Chinese virus", etc.) and the media made Asian people to be walking targets. |
Newest Chinese gov't BSL-4 lab? In Wuhan.
Focal center for facemask production? Wuhan. Focal center for nonwoven polypropylene? Wuhan. Coincidence? Probably. But still... |
No one can call me racist. I hate all stupid people equally. Maybe that makes me racist against stupid people?
|
I think we should call it the Cali Flu and blame California for it :twocents:

Is the Kung Flu considered racist? Asking for a friend...
|
I have a friend who works for Capital One. He's the head of his dept. They told him to work from home. So he went out and traded his small camper in and got a big Airstream camper. He's camping out in some campground in the Shenandoah Mountains. He's working from there.
