There was a Bradley Fighting Vehicle about 20 meters to my right. I saw their ramp drop, thinking they were gonna deploy some infantry. Nope. The track commander came out with a shovel, and a folding lawn chair with a hole cut in the mesh. He dug a shallow hole, set the lawn chair above it, sat down, light a cigar, proceeded to take a dump, and read the paper...in the middle of an engagement...:roflpuke2:

Rascist or xenophobic, it is all the same. Plus the pathetic and infantile tagging and name calling was uncalled for. Is this acceptable only for Premium Members?

Fixed.

I am sorry, but I just don't understand your comment about me speaking perfect English and me not knowing what QuZang meant. Feel free to clue me in.

This associates every Chinese to covid19, it carries a xenophobic undertone on blaming every single Chinese for the outbreak.

Perhaps it’s genuinely just a light hearted joke. For some others, it’s the type of words they hear while suffering from hate crimes, whether it’s dirty looks or a beating.

This is how I felt when I read the comment. This is subjective.

LMAO!!! So I'm going to use your previous post an example (below) in relation to the bolded part. Members who do not like to start drama, but are easily amused and entertained by them are like the small businesses and the "heart/soul" of this forum. Members who like to create such drama are the "Big Business" that keeps mods like Trips in power. Therefore, drama members should always stick around, esp. during a time like this when the interwebs is the pretty much the only source of entertainment, for amusement purposes :icon17:

Not just Chinese, but anyone of Asian descent. Just because I'm Asian, people automatically think I'm Chinese and also think I have the coronavirus. And racism isn't anything new and has been around since the beginning of time and will continue to exist to the end of times. When I first started at the bottom with my current company, I would talk to potential clients on the phone, and when we met in person for the first time, I've had many clients kinda pause and say "You're Asian? You sound white on the phone" lol. Still not sure what this means to this day, but thanks?

I don't think the words "coronavirus" or "COVID-19" themselves associates with Chinese people, but because of where this virus originated from, that's where people think it's Chinese. A virus knows no borders/ethnicities, and has no nationality lmao. Like hurricanes, the ones we get in Florida originate in the Atlantic ocean, and very VERY close to the central west part of Africa. This doesn't automatically make them African hurricanes.

So I if said I don't speak Chinese everything would be good? Lesson learned - people over react.

Still don't understand what English has to do with me not speaking Chinese.

Virus doesn’t have to originate from people. Wild animals are quite likely where it started.

It’s not overreaction, it’s just different perspective based on different experience.

You were saying Chinese is the official language of Covid19 because it originated it China. Nixin is saying it was brought to China by the US.

How many polocks does it take to change a light bulb? 3, one to hold the light bulb and 2 to turn the ladder.

What do you call a farmer in WV with a sheep under each arm? A pimp.

bunk 03-21-2020 01:48 PM

Wuhan..chinese... covid... all legitimate ways of referring to the virus. Viruses are traditionally referred to by the region of origin. There was NOTHING racist about it, until MSM made it so in order to attack the current administration...

Just like MERS (Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome). Wuhan virus, China virus, these I understand. But “Chinese” refers to the people, regardless of their geographical location. I think there’s a difference.

While I would normally agree with you, at the time it was called the chinese virus, it was primarily only in China and large majority infected were in fact... chinese. There still was no racist intent... stop watching CNN and msdnc

I dont want to clog up this thread anymore than it is. I posted a video in the Corona Virus thread

cv129 03-21-2020 02:16 PM

My opinion is not based on the media.

No harm done. I am merely pointing to others, that while you guys may not have racist intents, plenty that utter the same words do, so we can’t just discount the heightened sensitivity from some, even if they are in the minority. That’s all.

But my point is that before the media hyped it up to be racist people were ok with it. After the media started saying it was racist, people began to lose their mind and started doing stupid things. See how that works? They need to be held accountable.

Do you have the farmers phone number? I'm getting kind of lonely. :nutswinger:

Wow I actually didn’t this debate was going on in the public. I don’t subscribe to cable at at all, so I wasn’t aware of this until now.

No wonder things got a little hot in the other thread.

What ever happened to the the "farmersonly.com" commercials? Miss those... :shakes head:

SouthArk370Z 03-21-2020 03:32 PM

It is very common to name disasters of all sorts after the region where they do the most damage or are first detected. Eg, Spanish Flu, Ebola, etc. I see nothing racist about calling it the Wuhan Flu. If it had started in Chicago, London, or Kiev, we'd have probably named it after those places. YMMV

About as many people know the difference between China and Chinese (and Oriental) as know the difference between jealousy and envy - ie, not many. They are not being racist, they just don't know the difference.

What I think cv129 is trying to say is yes, the virus did originate in China, but that does not mean all Chinese people have the virus, just as not all Asian people are Chinese, and people are associating each Chinese person to have the coronavirus and/or that the coronavirus is the Chinese people. People travel to all parts of the world everyday, including Wuhan, meaning that someone from Spain or US or another part of the world could have been at the wrong place at the wrong time in China and could have contacted the virus. Also, no one is disputing the fact that the latest coronavirus is from the Wuhan region of China, but, not everyone from the Wuhan region will have the virus.

On a separate topic, I also hear people associate the term "coronavirus" as strictly the one that originated from China, when, in fact, there have been other previous strands of the coronavirus, and the term "coronavirus" is a general term.

True, but at the same time, I don't think any Asian person was okay with being associated with having the virus all because they are simply of Asian descent, and then the media did blow this up to be bigger than what it is. But then again, when is any form of racism, direct or indirect, ever okay?

I also think the terms used by government officials (i.e. "Kung Flu", "Chinese virus", etc.) and the media made Asian people to be walking targets.

BettyZ 03-21-2020 04:56 PM

Newest Chinese gov't BSL-4 lab? In Wuhan.
Focal center for facemask production? Wuhan.
Focal center for nonwoven polypropylene? Wuhan.

Coincidence? Probably. But still...

JARblue 03-21-2020 06:11 PM

No one can call me racist. I hate all stupid people equally. Maybe that makes me racist against stupid people?

JARblue 03-21-2020 06:13 PM

Who in the govt called it kung flu? MSM tried to call trump on it.. but when asked who said it, they didnt have an answer...smh...Also watch the video I posted in the CV thread. It was ok to call it chinese virus until the media decided it was a good way to attack the administration.

MZ DAIZY 03-21-2020 06:53 PM

Is the Kung Flu considered racist? Asking for a friend...

Rusty 03-21-2020 06:55 PM

I have a friend who works for Capital One. He's the head of his dept. They told him to work from home. So he went out and traded his small camper in and got a big Airstream camper. He's camping out in some campground in the Shenandoah Mountains. He's working from there.
