Or the vent boxes under the dash on each side that you had to open up the doors to get air.

Does not seem that long ago.

I actually liked the little quarter windows that you could push out by the A pillar... that worked quite well....

Chrysler had a push button auto. No floor or column shifter. The buttons was on the right side of the steering wheel, on the dash. Had from top to bottom. P, N, D, 2, 1 if I remember correctly.

I actually had swivel seats in a car once... my '79 Ranchero... bucket seats that swiveled so you could get in and out easier....

Nice!

How about an old style corded rotary phone adapted for your car... Cannon was a habitual user back in the day.

From Bell Systems, it's the Frank Cannon Model Mobile Phone:

My first cheby truck was a 1976 1/2 ton, 8' bed, A/C, loaded, 4x4, 350, 6" lift, 38" tires, with a 3 on the tree. :rofl2:

Another of my favorites back then was the amazing bumper jack.... get the whole dang car jacked up and it would fall sideways and bend the crap out of the jack and the bumper... LOL

Buddy of mine had a 70 Monte Carlo with a 454 4 speed with the swivel buckets.

And back then all cars had about 5 ashtrays, often with a cigarette lighter in each of them.... that was way before they invented cupholders...

Zingston 04-04-2019 11:46 AM

Yeah, now THESE were "options" paying extra for!

Down here in FLA they still sell cars with heated seats. WTFH???? Ain't nobody got no time fo dat!!

Spoiler 04-04-2019 11:54 AM

Not sure if anyone else remembers going to order a new car back then... you sat down with the salesman and went over every tiny detail.. each little thing was separate... there were no bundled option packages..

An auto adjust mirror was $34
Floor mats were $28
The air conditioner was $279
A vinyl seat instead of the cloth one was an extra $120

Every item could be spelled out and you get your car in any dang color..

Eventually the car mfg's realized it was taking to long to produce each car because they could all be slightly different.

------

Now it's just... okay this comes in 4 colors, and you get your choice of these three option packages... and how many payments do you want ... 48, 60, 72, 84, 96?

There's more choices in the financing then in the car itself...

Spoiler 04-04-2019 11:56 AM

Oops... got to go to a meeting...

Hate to get fired on my last day...

The last couple of years for the Viper. You could order it any way you wanted it. There was over 18,000 combinations. No two was alike. :rofl2: You picked out your own custom body colors.
