My welding helmet took a dump on me. I hit the trigger and it didn't darken. Optical painus.

Understatement... that welding flash can be brutal. My helmet is auto darkening too and solar powered, so if it's sitting in the shelf out of the sun for a while which it usually is between uses that can happen too. I should build a shelf or hook for it right underneath the window. This is a good reminder of that, unfortunately at someone else's expense.
