i always thought the auto down and up shifting while in manual mode was kinda stupid on the DSG, but now dat i think about it, it was smart for VW to design the car this way. DSG is all about quickness so allowing the computer to downshift to optimum gear when floored and auto upshifting at redline makes for an error-free FAST launches and passes.
 like i said, this thing is a rocket.
