modded stock intake box?

Has anyone modded the stock boxes? When I had my (B5) S4 the was a stock air box mod where you a cut the bottom of the box off- part that faced the wheel well- was wondering if this would be something that we could do and pick up some HP was was cleaning my KN's yesterday and was noticing how small the intake boxes port was?

from what I have read on this board, the general concensus seems to be the stock boxes are very good and no mod would improve them without upgrading to another system entirely...

Yup. The "cheap" intake mod for the 370z is a set of post-MAF tubes and higher flowing drop in filters. The box is fine as is.

I ve read that also but I have Z1 tubes with drop ins was just thinking about cutting the bottom of the box off to pull in some more air?

I don't think the stock boxes setup suffers from lack of air.

The stock boxes are more than adequate so just doing the less restrictive drop ins along with post maf tubes to straighten the air? is all you're going to need unless of course you spend some money on a cai.

If you still feel you want to cut up your boxes for no real gains? By all means do its your car. :ugh2:

stillen gen 3 , enough said. yes its costly around 550, but the pull you get from it low rpms you feel the difference, around 4-5k, omg it screams. well worth it.

Had them already loved then just can't see spend the 400 for them , heck I'll make my own before I do that , thank you tho . :)
And would but the Takedas before those again ( had those also)

I'm going to try and get on the dyno either this weekend or next to see if the v-stacks make a difference in a shoot out with OEM boxes. Both will have K&N panel filters and smooth tubes, so the only difference will be the v-stacks.

They should make more power, but we'll see...

If all goes well, I'll post pics of the build and lots of details; if they don't, I'll just report back with that as the conclusion.

If I get another 5 whp out of it, I'll consider it a success, but again, we'll see.
