don't cut into your boxes. the stock intake is a cold air intake. lots of aftermarket intakes make zero power, and some even lose power. you need a 500 dollar intake if you want to make real gains but then you're only really gaining top end.
|
Eh I Still might and do something "weird" and see what happens, An "If" I pull the trigger in a cold air is only $360. Stillens are over priced- Takeda's do the same for over a $100 less. I had them both and made the same power.

the only problems with the stock intake system are the narrow wavey accordion pipes and the fact that they're huge and hard to insulate against heat due to their size.
it depends what you are after - more sound or more performance? as for ram air for our cars, i'm not convinced it makes a noticeable difference. i've got probably the biggest ram air setup together with Stillen G3 intake and to be honest i cant notice any difference made by ram air (ie. slight forced induction effect). The only difference my ram air scoops makes is that the scoops block off heat from the radiator so air temps stay pretty stable and cool. That alone gives me better throttle response due to less timing pull. |

If that also falls through, come hell or high water I'll schedule time for the following weekend. I really want to test these out! :excited: |
Look for these man, Wondering "since" I did mod mine this weekend wondering if I'm going to plumb a pipe to it with the velocity stack at the end

Modshack modded stock boxes back in 09. I think papo_salsa had this mod. Shack determined the box mod was the least effective part of his concoction. The post MAF and drop ins or the cai had better results.

I'm tentatively scheduled to get on the dyno Friday night. I'll keep everybody posted :) Quote:
I was tempted to do that myself, but I decided to just wait for the dyno. |

Dyno results = nil. No gains, nada.
Sadly, this project is a bust :( If anyone is interested in experimenting where I left off, shoot me a PM and I'll sell you my v-stacks and other odds and ends. |
That stinks THANX for the efforts :)
I would have been interested on the V stacks but your bolt on, I am using an external intake pipe to feed the stock air box and was thinking on using one on the end, But I was looking at the ram air duct and placing them behind the grill. Sill looking around. |

Ok so been thinking a bit on what I was going to do. Finally bought some piping and air ducts, The ducts are either going behind the grill or I'm going to cut the front lower grills and mount these behind them in between my LED fogs, From the side on my air box where I cut them out( Side in the wheel well area) What you guys think? Lower Grills( I have a NON sport 09 Sedan) or behind the front grill AKA Still and Takeda? An benefit feed the box from two different spots? I know I may need more piping depending where I go but its a start.

From what I have seen/heard, flow is not the problem with the stock setup - it's not perfect, but it's not that bad - it's the fact that it's so freaking hot under the hood. Put your efforts into getting colder air into the system (CAI of some type; what it looks like ANMVQ is doing) and keeping the air cool until it gets to the combustion chamber (insulation). YMMV
