Unhappy Question about the K&N typhoon intake

So I just put in my K&N typhoon intake system recently. I understand that they are not as good as long tube CAI but I didn't want to go through the hassle of removing the bumper or making cuts that would be needed for the Stillen CAI. I was told yesterday that by putting in the K&N typhoon system I actually lost performance because it would essentially be a hot air intake system with it being under the hood like it is. Is this a true statement? Did I just waste a bunch of money on something that decreases performance?

I apologize in advance if this a noob question.

The K&N Typhoon utilizes heat shields around the intakes so that heat becomes less of an issue. I would not worry about it if I were you. From all of the reviews and dyno charts I have read, the Typhoon is a decent intake that delivers good additional power. The only negative I have ever heard is that the fitment is a little difficult.

there are threads on this already, but first use a scanguage or watever obd2 device to log iat's.

compare with stock. that should give you a good idea if your intake is really sucking cool air or just sucking hot air or just plain sucking in general.
