Default Metallic sounding RATTLE after EXHAUST install - CAN WE FINALLY RESOLVE THIS PLEASE??

Hey Guys,

I have seen a few other threads about this but there has been no definite answer. So i guess I'm hoping to FINALLY get some solids solutions to this common problem..

So i got these AMS headers installed on my Z with MagnaFlow HFC's. And also installed cold air induction/intake.

Straight after driving out the shop i immediately heard a metallic RATTLE sound. It occurs when the car is under load a little bit (going up a hill or in a to higher gear) around 3000rpm. They have checked the system 4 times. They can't see the system touching the body anywhere. They took the MagnaFlow resonators out and replaced with OEM resonators and the RATTLE still occurs..

It doesn't happen when the car is cold. It only happens when the car has warmed up. Sometimes is really loud and sometimes it doesn't happen.. This is driving me insane..

Any Assistant and solution/thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance.

jack your car up, get underneath, grab it by the cans (lol) and start shaking vigorously. See if you hear anything. The most common issue I've run into is that the exhaust may be touching the cross brace.

I have done that a number of times..... The exhaust system is not touching the body at all that i can find..

Someone has commented about the sound and they reckon that the engine is "pinging"... i have had it on the dyno and everything is fine.. Could installing the exhaust system and induction cause this?

cheers

Not knowing anything about your car. Is there expansion joints in your exhaust?

Can you actually pin point where the sound is coming from? If you can record the sound it would be nice. I do remember when I had my exhaust newly installed it made irritating rattling sounds but after awhile of driving it was gone.

My thinking about is some of the chemicals they might have coated the HFC and exhaust against corrosion or moisture are getting burned from the heat and making those popping rattling sounds. It even smelled like something burning like plastic and rubber

Try to give it a few runs for a day or 2 and see if still makes that sound after.

Adding flex's to the system is the next thing we are going to try to fix the..

If the HFC's are unresonated, that is probably it.

Even with resonators, it may not resolve 100%, but should make a huge improvement.
