My wife has backed it out recently when I'm not home to move trash cans and then pulled it back in after letting it idle a bit. Could that be it?

It's perfectly normal, And pretty easy to remove with Mother's metal polish or Never-Dull.

I've learned to wash the car and regularly check the exhausts for periodic cleaning and polish.

Simple green is my favorite. Any all-purpose cleaner will do the trick!
Staples and DEpointfive0 like this.

never dull does wonders, especially if you aren't running cats on the car. That stuff is amazing at polishing everything up!
