Default Z1 Tubes and breathers installed...

I just have to laugh at my DIY install of these tubes.

My car has proven to be the white devil and you would assume it thought I was trying to take it to the dentist.

I took out the strut brace and the two 10mm bolts holding down the air boxes.

I'm 2.5hrs into this 99% done, but what a bitch these are.

The biggest issue was the breather hoses after the tubes themselves which you have to get hulk angry on and cut up your fingers from slipping ever now and then on something sharp in the process.

Fitment of the breather hoses is 80% at best, they just are a struggle to lineup.

When I say 99% done it's because now I have to figure out how to the two 10mm bolts out of the engine bay undercarriage, and my socket wrench out of the front bumper *face Palm*.

I was buttoning up the cover and managed to bump the wrench down the center hole cutout where the hood latches. As for the bolts, the metal is so soft they stripped, popped out of the wrench and down into the abyss they went. FML.

Got the wrench, took off the shroud right over the radiator and front bumper, set of long tongs did the trick.

Food for Though.....I left mine unbolted since its a "Tight fitment" from throttle boddy to stock air box position. No problems or CEL for about 8 months now

Can I ask... was it worth the $$$ and effort?

It's a pretty cheap mod, but I've seen mixed reports on whether it's better to have the smooth tubes or a slightly turbulent airflow via the accordion tubes?

What's your butt dyno telling you?

Butt dyno is inconclusive.

It's cheap enough where there is no hard feelings either way.

Look at it as replacing rubber with silicone, and I did the K&N drop ins as well, so more airflow.

I will also say I would have gladly paid someone to install.

Default check air flow

My 370z is in the process of being etuned remotely with ECUtek. The data logger software that comes with the tune allows the user to monitor and record the maf . By comparing the maf before and after a mod, you can determine if the mod increased the air flow into the engine. If you can increase the maf with a mod, the potential is there for more power with the correct fueling and timing. It would be interesting to test the silicone post maf tubes relative to the stock accordion tubes to see if the smooth tubes increase flow.

I doubt the tubes flow much better. Maybe a 1hp difference. I'm not going to bother, I have the drop ins and that's good enough for now.

There is a pretty long thread here with dynos that show decent gains with tubes and filters. Its about 2-3whp shy of the g3. The stock airboxes flow very well so this is the best bang for your buck intake mod.

^this. Roddy, best not to give advice about stuff you have no idea about.. don't guess, search. They give real gains. I had them as my first mod. IMO, worth it compared to the price of the G3s.

Take a breather. I've done a ton of research and its not my first go fast car. I went with K&N drop ins based on the research I did, which showed that there was not much to gain above and beyond by going with the G3 intakes (especially looking at dollar value). As for the smooth post MAF tubes, like I said there is maybe 1hp to gained from those alone. Personally I don't have them. The dyno sheets I saw showed about a 5hp gain from the K&N's and post MAF tubes, and 8-9hp from the Stillen G3's. The Stock intake flows quite nicely from the threads I read. The biggest gain in the K&N drop in Post MAF mod is the filters. I stand by my 1hp gain from the tubes alone. Most guys who had the K&N's first then later added the Post MAF tubes didn't feel much if any difference compared to the stock tubes. You ok now? While I may be new to this forum, and the VHQ, I do know what I'm talking about.

So you don't have them and don't have a dyno with just filters. But according to your research they don't really help and you back up your statement by concluding because other guys 'didn't feel a difference', there's only a 1whp gain?

Thank you for explaining.

Ya, did you dyno post MAF tubes alone? I don't think anyone has.

Thanks for clarifying....

I'm not saying I have the final answer there big guy, but I've done the research. Other poster is on about not knowing what I speak of. I dont have the first hand experience on my car , but atleast I've researched. And rode in a 370 before and after the owner installed the post MAF tubes where we concluded its likely more for looks than power. Should I up my estimate to 2hp? can you even feel that kind of a gain?

I wasn't arguing that Post MAF tubes only had a 1whp gain. You were. So please, do explain what I need to clarify. Your argument is broken and opinionated. You state 'facts' and then back it up with speculation and your butt dyno.

Lol. Going for a ride in your buddy's car and doing your own super sweet research is nice and all, but fact is, drop ins and tubes makes good power and its cheap. How do you figure they dont flow much better? Or that they make maybe a 1hp difference? Just sayin, there's enough crap to weed through on here when trying to find real world answers

Holy crap.

I'm saying the gains are mostly in the filters. Stock intake is very good. post maf tubes account for maybe 1-2 hp of the TOTAL gains from doing the "Drop ins with Post Maf tube mod"

How do I figure? There is No change in length or diameter of tubes. Only smoother. Thats how I figure.

Clear?
