K&N or AEM

So I've heard differing opinions but does anyone have hard numbers or bad personal experiences that they can be very specific about?

What fittings? It's a filter. You ordered short rams, not drop ins? Whoops. I'd run maf tubes+drop ins or stock before I ran a short ram.

Yep. Return the short rams and exchange for the correct parts.

Default K&N or AEM

Short rams are worse than stock. All they do is suck in hot air. They make less power than stock. Either a cai or drop ins and maf tubes. Those are your options. I'm guessing you didn't do a whole lot of reading here before you made your choice. It's been discussed plenty of times.

Isn't the Stillen Gen II intake configured such that the filter is completely enclosed in a polyurethane box … that I assume prevents hot air from being sucked in similar to the stock set up? Or are you still suggesting that the stock boxes with drop-ins and MAF is the better route?

The options are either a long-tube CAI or drop-ins and maf tubes. The Stillen Gen2 will give you all of the power of maf tubes and drop ins at a much higher price.

From one of the other times this horse has been beaten:

Most of those issues are from people re-oiling and applying too much anyways. There is a tread here with dyno results for the K & N drop in's with somewhere between 5-10hp rwhp gains.... about the same for the Gen 2's (nowhere near 15hp gain). If you want real gains, save your cash for an exhaust.

Please forgive my ignorance but what are MAF Tubes and what do they do? I've only owned my 2010 370z for a short time and want to do some upgrades. I have heard that the K&N drop in is a very cheap and good thing to do. And I am probably going to order the FI Catback 18" soon. Before I order anything though, I want to make sure I am going down the right path. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Drop in filters from k&n paired with some MAF tubes from Z1 have been noted to get more gains than short ram intake but a little less than cold air intakes like stillen and takeda. Not to mention drop in filters and MAF tubes are cheaper than both of the other options. As far as F.I. Exhaust that is a very good choice bud. F. I. Is excellent quality and is worth the wait. I would've gotten it if it wouldn't have taken so long for me to get it (3 months) so I went w/ ark dts. But then again it's all your choice

Thanks Gibby. Can I just get the K&N drop in's? Will that help out? If so, would you mind sending me a link as to where I should buy online? And I need 2 not 1 correct?

MAF tubes = Mass Air Flow tubes. They basically replace the black accordion tubes that are stock on the intake boxes. Found here http://www.z1motorsports.com/g37_370...oducts_id=5292
I guess they offer smooth flow without the turbulence and you would swap out the oem filters in the oem air boxes with the K&N drop-ins instead. Believe it or not but the oem intakes are up to par. If your seeking performance and gains Stillen G3’s are the way to go. This whole intake thing though is like talking oil. But like others have stated Oem, MAF Tubes with drop-in’s or G3. These are the best options.

370Z / G37 K&N Drop In Filters

Yes you would need 2. One for each side.
