Takeda Intake Installed!

I had a visit today from UPS...

He delivered two packages, one was the Takeda Intake, and the other was the Covercraft Heatshield.

I got the heatshield from Covercraft UV Shield Sun Shade - Free Shipping for 45 bucks and free shipping!

use this coupon code and get an extra 5% off CTASAVE5

Anyway on to the good stuff...

alright first impressions were very good. The package was very well packed and padded inside with plenty of airbags...
Also Takeda throws some freebies in, a license plate frame, a key chain, stickers, and a 20% off coupon card.

build quality seemed well enough, material is very lightweight...

I downloaded PDF installation instructions from Takedas website. The instructions were easy enough to decipher. Only gripes I had with the instructions is that they dont tell you that you may have to trim the rubber hoses. I had to cut 3/4" off of both pieces, no biggie.

Second gripe is, at the end of the instructions they dont tell you to reconnect the battery, I know no biggie right...

My overall impression of the install is a positive one. On the right side install they tell you to tighten down the front bracket first. Thats for good reason, if you dont the pipe will slip out of the rubber hose adapter as you tighten down the clamp. So by tightening the front bracket first you avoid having the tube slip out of the rubber adapter at the TB as you tighten the clamp.

Also by disconnecting the battery you loose the default auto up window function, so to reset it you simply roll the window all the way up and continue holding the switch for about 5 seconds. Youll have to do that for both windows.

And lastly I did this install in my garage where it is currently 102 degrees outside, meaning my garage was probably around 112 degrees, ya it was HOT!

nuff said, heres some pics and a video, sorry for the blurry ones my camera is a POS and I need a new one...

not bad, sounded a lot less than a toilet flushing....there is a bit of it though...lol

time for theDreamer to dyno his set.

kdo2milger 08-05-2009 07:07 PM

this in addition to the fi cbe will net one bada$$ sounding lil sports car!

LiquidZ 08-05-2009 07:07 PM

I am hoping this kit does well.

kdo2milger 08-05-2009 07:47 PM

there is a dynojet shop here, i accidentally found it when I went to the animal shelter a few weeks ago. I may take a ride down to see them tomorrow...

theDreamer 08-05-2009 07:53 PM

Looks and sounds good, mine are in also and I am enjoying the nice sound upgrade. I will do a dyno on Monday, let the intake settle in a bit and then go back for the results.

Yes, I would like to thank Lou for a great price. :)

FricFrac 08-06-2009 05:55 PM

Curious to see how it dynos. It gets HOT in the engine bay....

frost 08-06-2009 05:56 PM

:waits for dyno: :D

JvKintheUSA 08-06-2009 06:41 PM

Very interested in the dyno results. As others have mentioned, it gets very hot under the hood.

Questions: This system uses a dry filter. Are they better/worse than oil type filters? Do you need to replace the dry type after a while or can they be washed clean?

Anyone have the Stillen Gen 2 CAI installed? I hate to remove my front fascia, and the Stillen Gen 2 might be a good alternative.

theDreamer 08-06-2009 06:56 PM

According to the package I got there are three ways to clean the Takeda filters:
~Give them a few bumps to knock the dirt/dust off
~Use a dry vacuum
~Wash them with a kit from Takeda

JohnnyBgood 08-07-2009 09:03 AM

In for a dyno....

This will be my next mod if it's worth it. Just can't pull the trigger on the gen3 due to the bumper deal.

I have been running the AFE Pro Dry filter on my Trail Blazer SS for about 20,000 miles now, just cleaned the filter last month. I used the water hose and sprayed from inside out, it came 100% clean and completely dried within an hour no chemicals needed just water. The filter does a real good job keeping particles out of the engine. The outside of the filter was fifthly but inside had no debris in it nor did the pipe to the throttle body.

I also install the Takeda Intake on my 370z and I love it. Sounds great, looks great, and pulls harder.

By looking at your grass you do not get much rain there, but do those filters get wet when you drive in the rain?

no, not unless the front end becomes submerged in water as in this photo

The Mach 1 could take that.

nogoodname 08-07-2009 10:19 PM

why would rain get it that far........only if you throw the hood off the car, then it's a problem...LOL

(not talking about the flood there)

kdo2milger 08-07-2009 10:59 PM

:iagree:

Pushing_Tin 08-09-2009 11:06 PM

Daishi 08-10-2009 08:03 AM

the engine bay gets very hot i wouldnt think this intake would provide any gains with the hood closed... but who knows. why would takeda not opt to put covers over the intakes atleast like stillen?

m4a1mustang 08-10-2009 08:36 AM

Heat certainly is an important element but tube diameter and air velocity are important as well.

Endgame 08-10-2009 12:06 PM

I am leaning towards Injen, but would be curious to see what gains this offers when hood is closed!!

theDreamer 08-10-2009 12:11 PM

Dyno is scheduled for today at 3PM central time, hood will be closed and again on the same Dyno Dynamics from the same shop. Might not be able to post of actual sheets until tonight but will try to get the numbers online so people can at least know the gains (if any).

theDreamer 08-10-2009 03:13 PM

Dyno is postponed till tomorrow morning, sorry everyone. :(

kdo2milger 08-10-2009 03:24 PM

i stopped by my local dynojet shop this afternoon...i will schedule something early next monday for later in that week, that way i can get a before and after with the Fast Intentions catback.

theDreamer 08-10-2009 03:26 PM

Ooo, that is good for me, looking into the FI exhaust and since we have the same intake. :D

Kidding!

theDreamer 08-10-2009 03:31 PM

Well not my fault, the dyno shop had an unexpected customer who needed the dyno for tuning and repairs.

You should've told the dyno shop that you had several hundred people on this forum that NEEDED you to get that dyno done ASAP... LOL!

I'm also interested in seeing the numbers out of this intake.. Don't like the idea of taking my front bumper apart each time I need to clean or replace filters and in my country weather can be a real mess...

RCZ 08-10-2009 05:38 PM

^ How often do you clean your filters? isn't it every 15k miles or so ?

Also dreamer, you will ONLY have an intake installed as far as engine performance goes for the dyno right?

Removing the bumper is a 10-15 minute job. I can do it in less time than it takes to take the lower panel off for an oil change. Certainly not a reason to rule out the G3.

pty370z 08-10-2009 06:46 PM

I usually clean my air filters every 10,000 Km which is roughly around 6,500 miles..

The thing is where I live, there is not much long distance driving needed to go places I frequently visit so it actually takes me a while to drive that distance...

I haven't completely ruled out the Gen 3... I'm actually just taking a look at everything that is available and I just wanna make a good decision based on something that will be beneficial for the car and won't be a pain in the nuts after a while...

I am also concerned about the weather here because we have rain coming down 9 out of the 12 months of the year and when we are in the middle of the heavy-rain months there are floods everywhere so, having an intake like the G3 could be an issue...

The one that I did rule out was the Injen.. Numbers are similar to the Stillen G3 and I have to replace the washer fluid tank? (WTF)

Still evaluating... We'll see...
