Again the pharse is " NO NEED " for a tune. You won't burn a valve or damage your engine simply because of a simple Intake and exhaust upgrade. Unless you go Turbo, Supercharger, Nitrous or anything beyond of what a VQ37VHR is asked to do by the factory, the car should be fine. If you track the car and push it to it's limits, then it's a whole different ball game, and you may want to tune because you are looking at optimal power, not just a fun ride.... You can still tune it if you want regardless, but herein lies the risk. You tune it, something happens, Nissan can claim you tampered with the programming on the computer and hence your warranty is void.

Now it's up to each individual to make up his/her mind what they want to do. Upgrade hell? Here it is... Decision making time... :icon14:

The worst part about having a warranty is the thread of losing it.

I'm looking to get the Fast Intentions CBE with the 12 inch resonators in the near future and I'll be installing Post-MAF tubes and k&n drop ins. I wont be changing the headers and I probably won't be getting HFC's any time soon.
With these upgrades will I need to get a tune? Will the car run fine and not too lean with the stock tune?
Thanks :)

Per my discussion with Tony when I ordered my LTH's and CBE, you DO NOT "need" a tune. He even went as far as saying from their testing, it was only the Stillen Gen III's that when added to full exhaust mods would need a tune. If you're that concerned about it give Tony a call and discuss it with him. He was more than helpful back when I ordered mine.

I'll be sure to speak with him about it when I order my headers. I just need to get to one of these Chicago meets so I can here them in person. I seriously think with everyone there you could almost hear all the different combinations.

Thanks for the response guys, I'll call Tony for sure when I want to order.

I'd say your service manager is correct. These cars are MAF based, which reads air flow and adds fueling to what it sees from those readings. I doubt mild bolt ons like a CBE and CAI will flow enough air over stock to get the MAF out of the range of adjustment it can command from the PCM.

Has anyone actually ran AFR numbers on a car before and after to see how much the AFR changed with a CBE, CAI, or combination of the two? Surely someone has. On my Challenger, exhaust and intake didn't change the AFR at all, and it's MAP based and has no way to adjust for anything on it's own like a MAF car will.

I'd wager maybe even test pipes wouldn't need a tune either. Maybe adding LT headers would finally get to a point it'd be necessary....I'd need to see some data from the other bolt ons to speak to that.

My 4Runner is MAF based, and it adjusted just fine with no tune when I slapped a supercharger on it AFR wise at 7psi of boost. However, I did have to add a piggy back controller to manipulate timing, then I upped the boost to 10psi and then had to tune it, which I did myself.

Yes Dimer, make sure you make our cars and coffee that is the premeet for ChicagoZ on the 22nd at 10 am (not just the ChicagoZ meet) and you will hear many different setups.

-we already have one person who has long tube headers+ non res. CBE
-I am installing this weekend 18" res CBE
-Another guy has on order 12" res CBE + I think HFC or RTPs
-Another one is ordering an FI exhaust (don't Know which one)
-there is guy with a nismo that has HFC or RTP + either 12 or 18 CBE (sorry dont remember)
-another guy has just 18" res. cbe

The only time you will have issues with our car is when you add intakes that fool (different diameter piping) the MAF sensors

I don't know. I thought I remembered seeing something about Fast Intentions stickers, be I don't even want to guess where that was in this thread.

Got it! They exist, so at least I'm not crazy. Not sure how you get them, though.

Nope, it is not the intakes or stickers. The stickers are already here and the intakes are currently on the back burner due to the 3" TDX and TT Kit!
