parked the car, walked out to the car this morning and noticed something hanging from my exhaust.

a pretty large piece of the Carbon fiber has broken off and is just hanging there.

I guess there was a rock or something and it slammed into the exhaust.

ouch...sorry to hear that

So is there a hole now, or is the CF just covering another layer of metal? Thought at least some of it was all CF molded, to account for the weight savings that Tony says the CF gives you.

il check it out tonight when I come home. but I think it covers metal. I doubt that the exhaust is MADE off CF

You should try using FPReds or Blacks. They outflow the hell out of the 20Gs GReddy uses and spool WAY better. I know one FPBlack is good for 9's on an Evo... I'm sure 2 combined with 3.7l of displacement would make for a torque-heavy, fast spooling combo with a great powerband AND have great top-end (hell, I it 30psi by ~4500rpm on a 2.0 and it pulls like a raped ape to 8k). Plus, the turbos weigh much less than 30Rs/35Rs and flow only 1cfm less than your average 35R and also have a smaller profile.

Just an idea.

ALSO

I'm a huge fan of your exhaust. There's a certain video of a white 370 that had it installed at a dealership and they actually made a "commercial" about it (and other things)... pretty sure you've seen it. Anyways, the sound made my pants feel funny. DO ******* WANT when I get my Z at year's end.

Nice 2007 Mazda3 in the background

Sorry. Just jealous of those pristine, shiny FI tips.

Looks and sounds great!

Haha, normally I am the only car down there for the entire week so that is an anomaly. Anyone can have these shiny exhaust tips, just grab some polish and use some elbow grease!

I personally wanted to sell the Evo but four things tell me otherwise:

1. The wife says no.
2. With the possibility of the demise of the Evo, I could possibly have a future classic (as far as imports are concerned).
3. It's just about paid off.
4. The wife says no.

So I will be making some room for my Evo's future sibling. Which bothers me not one bit.

Lol, that's awesome bro. I love Evo's... always have, and always will. Too bad they stopped making them after the X's.... boohoo. Oh well, at least you got the best one

There's a small possibility of the Evo being revived as a possible performance oriented EV later on, but who knows.

Exhaust looks/sounds good, congrats Christian

Err, that sucks. Sorry br0. Prolly best bet is to cut off the broken piece, and use a sharpie on the metal to make it dark and hard to see. :ugh2:

Vegitto-kun 03-13-2011 02:49 PM

probably will do that soon.

beh bleeeh. sometimes I wonder why FI made the cans angle down so hard.

thin tires = scrape the **** out of it.
lowering it = scrape the **** out of it.

so I have to keep the stock height.

christian370z 03-13-2011 05:20 PM

If you have a moderate drop, I don't see how you would scrape the "sh1t" out of the cans. With my drop, I find there is plenty of clearance and as long as you don't drive over speed bumps or curbs at 15mph, don't see the problem. That said, there is some space to angle the cans up more to increase ground clearance.

Vegitto-kun 03-13-2011 05:43 PM

I scraped the exhaust when I had 30 thick tires instead of stock 45.

christian370z 03-13-2011 08:13 PM

Oh, I didn't think about lower profile tires. The guy who owned my FI exhaust prior was slammed on coilovers and he scratched it once (pretty minor).

Do you have a base/non-sport pkg? Cus the sport pkg tires are 40F/35R

tsolin01 03-13-2011 11:46 PM

I've scraped already on stock height but I don't even know when it happened. Either way you just need to be more careful, especially if you're lowered. Even stock height, I think you just need to avoid speed bumps and inclines all together. Normal roads and driveways shouldn't be an issue though even if you're lowered slightly.

Ron 03-14-2011 12:26 AM

oh what the hell, I want one.. Tony can you please pm me pricing and shipping quote to 77449?

SS with 18'' resonators. I have a Nismo in case it matters. Thanks!

my home is surrounded with speedbumps.

dem government looooves placing them EVERYWHERE.

when I go to tom for stuff for my car. when I am near his house I LITTERALLY pass 5 high and steep speedbumps in a mile radius.

its insane.

Speed bumps should be fine, even if it is lowered. You just need to take the speed bump normal and not fast. I put over 200 miles on the prototype car in 2009 and drove it in all kinds of places. I never scraped once!

Tony

KptKIDLAT 03-14-2011 02:45 PM

Newbie here... Mode I can do easily w/ HP gain is a new exhaust.

I really like the sound of FI and Ark , but leaning toward FI because of the price, I will keep my stock Intake ,the only concern I have is clearance but Tony says it shouldn't be a problem.

My question is...
Should I go for Non-resonated or 12" or 18" Resonator? I don't like loud exhaust though.

Thanks for the Help guys :driving:

The bigger the resonator, the quieter the exhaust. Also, Tony has Carbon Fiber or Stainless Steel cans, the latter being the quieter. So there are several possible combinations you could go with. The quietest being the 18" res with SS cans. But if you wanted switch it up, you could do 18" resonators and CF cans or 12" resonator and SS cans... Those would probably give you the good medium you're looking for as far as sound/looks. All of the CBE's will give you the same performance upgrade.

Quite honestly, I thought the 12" resonated FI exhaust would be louder than it actually is. Granted, I also have high flow cats which adds significant volume but it is very livable and pretty quiet when cruising.

You need to get test pipes or the LTH's, my friend. I have the FI RTP's, and honestly, it is quite embarrassing turning my car on in the morning...it is so loud and it shakes my entire house! I love it, but my neighbors......ehhh that's another story :D

I have the same thing here in the apartment complex. (I have the LTH's) and it roars to life. LOVE IT!

If anyone were to complain to me, I'd say: "Sure I could make it quieter for you, you just give me the 20k I need to install twin turbos silencers, and she'll be quiet as a whistle..."

Haha, that is how it is already with me as my neighbor's house is literally right behind my garage and therefore get the full effects of my cold starts. The only thing I would replace my Berks with are a set of Motordyne Art pipes but I can't justify the extra money for a few more horsepower and slightly more volume.

The justify it with the huge chubb you know you'd spring when you crank it every day. :rofl2:

Haha, well I think it is only fair. They have two sons and a daughter, all of whom are rude and annoying. One of the sons has a 335i with a full catless straight pipe exhaust which is super loud and he revs it even in the mornings which has woken me up on occasion. Karma!
