If you are concerned with "loudness" at all I think you would want an 18''. Best bet is to call Tony there and he will give you a loudness test to figure out what would be best for you.

I ended up getting an Ark Grip used (which I love btw.. silent @ cruising speed, and very low rumble @ idle, and growls when accelerating).. but I would of gotten a FI if I had not come across a decent deal.

That sounds like about what I want. I do a lot of 30-50mph speeds because I live very close to work and school.

I just feel like I should be able to handle 12" if people are getting non res and are content with it. But I don't know

I guess talking to him would help a lot. And ultimately you only know for if you get to hear it in person haha

cooltoy 02-24-2014 08:19 PM

Either way its going to be louder then stock.

I think the 18" just gets under the 85 decibel law.

volman 02-24-2014 09:39 PM

I picked up a used FI exhaust, SS with 18" resonators, from a member on here and had it installed today. After reading through this thread, I fully expected it to not be loud enough and to plan on getting HFCs to up the volume a little. I was wrong. I wanted an exhaust that not only sounded great, but wasn't obnoxious when driving at lower speeds through my neighborhood, had a nice noticeable volume response even when just lightly applying throttle, and could scream above 5000rpm. This exhaust does it all for me. My point is that...compared to stock...the 18" is neither tame nor quiet.

I could certainly be happy with 12" resonators and get along fine without annoying the neighbors. To be honest, as I get used to it, I might want to increase the volume a little bit at some point. But if you're worried about it being too loud, then I don't think you would be disappointed going with either 18" or 12". The 18" is a very noticeable upgrade from stock. Personally, I don't think non-res would've been a good fit for me. I'm not getting drone in the cabin and the volume of the exhaust comes through just enough to replace the usual road noise I hear. The road noise was annoying...this exhaust note is not. Net positive there.

I have 12" res. and love them. At idle after warm up is fairly quiet. A little louder at cold start. At low rpm it's not that loud but has a nice deep tone. In the 4k-6k range is the sweet spot to me. Loud but not crazy loud. Up around redline, I don't really hear just the exhaust, everything is screaming... Hope it helps some. Have you listened to the different options on youtube? It's not like in person, but it helped me decided. Tony is also helpful with helping you decide.
You can't go wrong with any of the options, it's a beautiful system in all ways.

I'm going through the same thing as far as deciding on non-res, 12" or 18" however I will be pairing whatever type I get with the FI LTH's. I've been leaning towards getting the 18" but I guess I should probably talk to those who also have the FI LTH's.

I'll be ordering within the next week or two so I will need to come to a decision pretty quickly.

921! Getting closer.. I went with cfe and 18'S

G37Sam 02-26-2014 03:12 PM

Thanks that helps a ton. I will also eventually sound proof my car a bit when I upgrade the stereo so that would probably block some of the sound.

And if it is a little too loud for people outside. So be it haha

axmea? 02-27-2014 02:31 AM

I love it when sparks fly at 1:17 and 1:23.

My old vette used to spit 12" flames, straight 3" pipes motor to tips no mufflers.

bkjunk 02-28-2014 07:27 PM

920 here, I am just trying not to think about. But I still find myself checking this thread twice a day. I also visit the FI site daily to look at pictures. It's hard not to think about it when I am always thinking about it.

It's stock man, just some bolt ons :p

03heritage 03-01-2014 01:50 PM

Wow, I don't know about you guys, but I have a FI CBE, w/ non-resonated SS cans. Tony said I'd lose ~8-10% sound, after breaking in/ECU rerest. Have to say, car actually sounds exotic, sound is perfect. I like sound, so if you're looking for quiet, maybe this isn't for you. This pretty much is the best sounding car, I've ever had, and it's BC of the FI. Had a bunch of muscle cars, this ones sweet...happy motorring MHLivesay

Zauskycop 03-01-2014 02:24 PM

I haven't the slightest idea what number I am....

I will second that I get so many compliments about the exhaust especially at the track when you can really get on it. Young guys old guys it doesn't matter when it sounds badass it sounds badass period.

Go to page 234 post 3507, Tony posted an updated order list. Also you can find out your order # from the PO # on the invoice he sent you, they are one in the same.

Zauskycop 03-01-2014 09:52 PM

Thank you, I had never noticed the PO number on the order...and would have never found that list!
