just ordered, thanks man!
|
Just ordered too. So much cheaper than the Gen 3 and no cutting involved.
Realistically, will I be able to notice a sound difference while driving? I can't tell in youtube vids, since the exhaust dominates too much. Also, this is my first mod :o |
This is my first performance mod as well, and the sound doesn't seem much different but I haven't really gotten on it yet. After removing the stock intakes, this is certainly an improved system... I wonder how much air the engine gets stock!
As a side note, autoanything shipped very fast as well. |
i didnt buy it to sounds "cool"....performance....performance!!

Intakes came in today but it was missing one of the Tube #3's (should've been 2). The shorter ones that connect the filter to the 45 degree coupler. So I called up Autoanything and their customer service rep was really helpful and got the warehouse to send that part.
Impressions on the intake are good. The tubes are well polished and the filter looks pretty beefy. I was surprised how large it was when I held it in my hands. There were a couple small nicks on one of the bends in the longer tubes but not really noticeable unless you are up close, and the inside is undamaged. The insides of the tubes have some black powder, probably from the manufacturing. I read somewhere that the Gen 3's also have this. I don't know if leaving it there would be harmful in any way, so I'll be washing that out later today. I'm hoping the tube gets here soon, because I'm eager to install it. |
I didn't clean mine out, and I put a few little nicks in the tubing when I installed them and they buffed out for the most part. Yeah, pictures of the filter don't really allow you to get a good feel for the size. Not bad.
The instructions are missing some steps in my opinion, here's what I would add or change: Step 2: Pull up on the center piece of the cover to remove. Step 9: Might not be required to be performed to remove the bumper. I did though and no one died. Step 11: Requires you to remove the retaining clip in the front of each wheelwell and pull the inner liner just over it back slightly to access the 10mm bolt. Step 12: If you have the air deflectors, you also have to remove the bolt that attaches to the bumper undertray. The other 2 can stay. Step 13: Installation of the couplers requires the removal of the 2 plastic pieces (one on each side) above the radiator support. They are held in place by a bolt and a plug and are easy to take out. Do not spend an hour trying to squeeze the couplers through the small opening. Step 21: The filter mounts to the bracket with the supplied hardware and requires the removal of a clip for the hole. It's right where the #14 is on the picture. It can be seen in my picture above. Step 23: Is easier to accomplish if you have someone hold up one end of the bumper while you install the other. Step 24: Do not gall any of the threads. Hope this helps. |
Car Fulled stripped. One side done. Then I realize the lower right metal tube is missing.....so pissed right now.
|
Really? 2 incomplete packages? WTF!
|
I hope to get that piece sometime this coming up week

While I was on hold, I looked through this thread on myg37.com. Takeda Cold Air Intake System - MyG37 They seem to be similar designs but it wasn't well received over there. Makes me pretty nervous about it, but I am pretty sure our version of the intakes are a much more updated design. At least the couplings all fit together very nicely, without much of a gap with the tubes. |
They are 2 day shipping th pipe. So hopefully by Thursday!

I just read the g thread on these. Anyone having fitment issues, specifically with couplers diameter bring too large and/or couplers being to short?

Nope. You can check my feedback above. |

I've yet to get any followup information on when my pipe is shipping. :( |
I just called them directly. This morning. I asked when it'll ship. He said probably today.
|
autoanything sent an email today.....they are shipping out today, with 2 day shipping....yay

Any independent dyno results yet?
|
Don't hold your breath...

I still haven't gotten an email. I'll have to call them tomorrow during the day. :( I wish there were more independent dyno results too. The manufacturer provided one looked a little too good to be true, with a beefy gain in lower rpms too, which is unusual for an intake. |
A knowledgeable dyno operator can get a 10hp increase from a set of LED dome lights... Just be happy you spent $400 on new shiny parts and a couple of stickers...

So I finally installed the intakes yesterday and they look great and sound great. It's been too long since I drove the car much so I couldn't honestly say if they added any power, but gear changes have spun wheels more than they used to, although this may be attributed to my soon-to-be-bald tires.
However, I have one major concern, probably not intake related. After resetting the ECU, the transmission is behaving strangely during shifting. In higher gears, 4,5,6, and 7, the transmission no longer seems to be fully locking. For example, the rpms will drop down to ~1k after shifting up to 5th, and then when I gas it, it would rise up to ~3.5k, above where it should be for the speed, and then drop back down once I let go, sometimes to where it should be (let's say around 2.5k) sometimes back to ~1k. The downshift rev matching also isn't activating in higher gears. Instead of popping up when downshifting to 3,4, or 5, it would just slowly climb back up. This, and the upshift won't snap into gear as fast as they used to. Anyone know if this is just because of the ECU reset and that this would fix itself after a while? Or did I mess something up during the install? |

You didn't drink enough beer during the install. Now you have to drive the car more so the ECU can relearn... |
Wheres the maf sensor?

What is the significance, in terms of performance, of where vendors put the sensor. Either close or farther, and wide or narrow?

Individual results may vary. |
probably said already and pretty obvious answer but just checking... do u have to remove the bumper to clean or remove the filter during any maintainance???

It seems like the car adjusted itself, although this took about 500 miles for it to get back to its old aggression. I'm definitely not going to reset after I put an exhaust on. 500 miles just takes far too long to readjust the transmission programming.
|
For anyone looking for these should get them now. I checked everywhere and most places are sold out.
