Let's keep things civil between Berk and F.I. They're two different design philosophies. It comes down to user preference.

I jumped in on the Berks with their HFC with the group buy. As for exhaust, I went by the G37 YouTube videos. That's when F.I. caught my attention. I bit the bullet by pre-ordering the F.I. after buying Berk HFC.

I think that's a good compromise. F.I. appreciates my patience since April. I'm sure Berk will appreciate your patience as well.

semtex 07-07-2009 05:35 PM

I don't think anyone is being uncivil.

B1nks 07-07-2009 05:56 PM

isn't the BERK and GTM exhausts supposed to be pretty similar so far ? Just reading back through the 2 and it seems as though they are seeing as how the both used the flex area in the beginning of the exhaust and stuff..they look pretty similar.

m4a1mustang 07-07-2009 05:58 PM

Yup, not uncivil at all.

When the FI thread really got going I was expecting a Berk rep to be in here reviving this one ASAP... but instead they are silent and look to be letting FI take away some market share!

Yeah, the FI is looking mighty fine...

difference is that berk stacks the mufflers || and F.I will fab them straight \ /

BerkTech 07-07-2009 10:19 PM

Hi guys, just got back today from TX on business. We finished up another prototype exhaust and this one is 99% of what the production version will look like. The R&D process is something you NEVER want to rush just so you can be first to market. You must get it right the first time or else you guys will have fitment issues or durability issues down the road.

The level of engineering that goes into our systems is on a different level to what you see in the tuner market. We go through great lengths to ensure that you are getting a product that are designed better than the OEM components they are replacing. We've even had a Nissan engineer consult with us on the design process to make sure we have his stamp of approval. These are not your run of the mill "exhaust shop" pieces but highly engineered parts that will perform better and last longer than anything else out there. It is worth the wait!!

Cheers!

Looks clean man. I don't know what was with people doubting this, btw - developing a product thats worth a damn takes time lol.

Caravanshaka 07-07-2009 10:30 PM

I don't think there was doubt, just a lot of people that were expecting updates a week or 2 ago, so when FI hit the forum running with their exhaust that sounded great, it seemed like Berk wasn't responding (since it seems he was here in TX on business).

Anyways, lookin' good Berk! can't wait to see the gains and mounted pics

Yeah, I definitely wasn't doubting it. I was just very surprised at how quiet this thread got.

M.Bonanni 07-07-2009 10:41 PM

May thats so sexy looking. Can't wait to get it! Thanks for the update Berk!

LiquidZ 07-07-2009 11:29 PM

Thanks for the update! Please don't forget to weigh the exhaust!

genki370z 07-08-2009 12:12 AM

man the exhaust is looking so good! that xpipe is built to perfection!

dlmartin81 07-08-2009 09:16 AM

Are those tips round or oval?

Oval.

Really like the pics so far, lots of good design visible there :)

Togo 07-08-2009 04:17 PM

That looks really nice, can't wait to see the specs posted

B1nks 07-08-2009 05:59 PM

OK so the exhaust looks sick nasty ! The only thing I want to know along with everyone else is if that is 99% of what the production exhaust will be how long with that extra 1% take until the exhaust will be ready and we will hear some samples and be able to purchase it ? What kind of time frame are we looking at ?

This was a clean sheet design that is going to require some custom made tools. The exhaust tips & support gussets are all custom made pieces and need custom made tools which all takes time. We just finished up another test fitment & sound check on Minicobra's 370Z today and the tips we fabricated for this system look absolutely perfect inside the 370Z bumper cutouts. Power tests on the 3 Y-pipe designs will be conducted next week by an independent 3rd party.

We'll have some pictures and video for you guys tomorrow!

Some mounted pics for you guys! The Berk exhaust sounds deeper and slightly more aggressive than the existing Nismo exhaust.

Awesome sound quality, killer good looks, and Berk Technology's renowned build quality = one bad a$$ exhaust!

Berk Technology vs. Nismo
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...ZExhaust04.jpg

Some design notes:

-Dual 2.5" Piping
-Custom made oval tips to fit the OEM bumper cutout
-True X-pipe - tangentially siamesed
-Optimal X-pipe placement for the VQ motor
-Does not hit the OEM cross brace, no need to tweak or fiddle with anything
-Flex sections in OEM locations for longevity (You NEED flex sections to soak up engine movement & vibration. The flex sections are not there to correct angle deviations.)
-100% bolt on with simple hand tools

Togo 07-09-2009 08:17 PM

Nice. Can't wait to see vids and dynos results! Exhaust looks great guys

Does the passenger side tip stick out further than the drivers side? it looks to be off about 1/2 - 3/4 inch.

Other than that, it looks fantastic...if that is the nismo next to it your exhaust makes that look like toy

import111 07-09-2009 08:28 PM

Yea, pass. side tip sticks out farther than drivers side for sure.

Togo 07-09-2009 08:32 PM

OH snap, I missed that. Now that you point it out it appears blatantly obvious. Maybe it's just a prototype defect? I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to lengthen the driver side tip

It's just the angle that pic was taken at. A 1/2" or 3/4" length difference would stare at you in the face.

The exahust looks great and I'm glad someone took my opinion on using an oval slanted tip. GORGEOUS! Fills in the gap nicely.

However, I'm not so sure thats the angle of the pic...its kind-of obvious...easy fix tho since you just need to extend it straight on the drivers side. I mean you can see the difference in all the pics and the underneath shot is super obvious.

I hope it really is just the 'angle'.

We took some input from you guys who voiced their opinions on the oval vs. round tips. It took some engineering but we got the oval tip to work with the space you have back there.

One important thing to note is that you do not have to mess with removing or relocating the EVAP canister or EVAP lines.

Ya, definitely good call on the slanted oval tips :nutswinger:

All I can say is WOW!!.....that is soooo clean.

LiquidZ 07-09-2009 10:00 PM

The oval tips definitely look great.

BerkTech 07-09-2009 10:14 PM

Measured up the tips on the bench. There is at most a 2mm difference, or 5/64".

We are no stranger to doing difficult to manufacture dual exhausts. Here's one of our systems that we do for the Toyota MR2.
