i love the second exhaust sound starting at 30 seconds into the vid.
YouTube - Berk Technology 370z Dual Exhaust Prototype#1

That was prototype #1 which was true dual, no x-pipe, no h-pipe. Most likely prototype #3 with the x-pipe will be the one that goes to production and it sounds better (IMO) than any of the other prototypes. I will have more videos of prototype #3 soon with in-car, drive by, and launch videos.

In-Car video is up!

Thanks! There is a group buy thread here. This is the only way to get one right now. Dyno results are also in the group buy thread.

wtf ? #3 ? Wait..ok there was this one 1. YouTube - Berk Technology 370z Dual Exhaust Prototype#1

2. YouTube - Berk Technology 370z Dual Exhaust Prototype#2 with X-pipe Configuration

3. YouTube - Berk Technology Prototype Exhaust #3 Dyno Test

Do i have this right ? What does this setup look like and what changed ? Like the sound but what is the price point now ?

lol, don't concentrate on the prototype numbers. That was my fault. Berk made the first two videos, I made the third.

The exhaust that will most likely go into production is the X-Pipe version shown in the second and third videos you listed. My mistake is that I had prototype #2 marked as the h-pipe version while Berk had prototype #2 marked as the x-pipe version.

Retail price hasn't been set in stone yet, but I have a group buy going on right now and pricing for that is $995.

Caravanshaka 07-20-2009 06:38 PM

check the other thread DDM linked above, it has pricing and info

B1nks 07-20-2009 07:35 PM

Yeah but I guess what I'm trying to figure out is if that second video is the same exhaust as the third ? Cause it's kinda hard to hear the exhaust in the third clip over the dyno at some points.

XwChriswX 07-20-2009 07:46 PM

Ugh, such a great deal. Hell makes me wanna buy the HFC's and CBE before I even buy the car cause I know the price is gonna jump $500 or so lol.

So this deal's only good for a month... Aug 14th is gonna be a scary day for my bank account then lol.

True dual as from the headers back?
no y pipe?

do you have pics of this?

:icon18: that's the x-pipe which is probably the important one cuz it has the most gains and sounds the sweetest

go put in your order or :gtfo2: :tiphat:

LiquidZ 07-21-2009 08:20 AM

The only thing I do not like about this exhaust is the weight. Everything else looks great.

Caravanshaka 07-21-2009 08:23 AM

more weight over the rear of the car is definitely better than more weight over the front. Unless you are a full out race car you won't tell the difference of a few pounds.

I agree. I wish we had a weight for the x-pipe.

XwChriswX 07-21-2009 10:23 AM

I saw it posted earlier in the thread, and was kinda glossed over so I wanted to see if I could get a more in depth answer about this cause it was something I considered...

Me myself, I like the looks of the / \ style cannisters that FI makes, but after listening to the Berk video's, I like the sound alot more. Which, looking at the numbers, they are relatively close as with most exhausts, so for me it comes down to Asthetics. Earlier it was mentioned that Berk went with a = design versus the / \ because of the aerodynamic lift created from the space in the / \ design.

However my original thought process was wasn't the point to make as few bends in the system as possible, for that 'straight through' power? It seems as if this puts alot more bends in it to make the = pattern work?

Do not get me wrong, I am not bashing this system at all, I really am growing fond of Berk products :happydance: and just like clarification. I will probably get this setup of HFC + CBE as soon as theres more vids of people driving with it. Dyno's are good, but unless I'm on the strip (which I'll be inside the car) I won't get to know what it sounds like to the outside world.

Caravanshaka 07-21-2009 10:32 AM

straight through with the least bends as possible is what people won want a turbo in the near future will look for. More bends in an NA car isn't going to affect the overall horsepower as much, and it will likely gain a tad bit more torque due to a tad bit more backpressure.

keep in mind a tad bit is something you will never feel on the butt dyno. The difference isn't going to be noticeable between the /\ and the =

Ground clearance I believe was one of the reasons berk went with = as well, although it appears FI got everything under there with enough clearance.

So you are saying if someones looking to go ST or TT later down the road, this isn't the kit to go with? Cause my goal is right now, do everything from HFC's back, still a little unsure about headers cause I've been reading the posts here, dunno if I wanna tackle that myself. And I'm looking at doing a TT setup (when it's whithin my budget lol).

The second video is the same exhaust as the third.

The true dual was from the cats back, with no x pipe, y pipe, or h pipe. No pics of it, that was the mock up system they made just for fitment.

to be honest, if you go with a twin turbo kit you are going to want to do a full custom exhaust. The piping diameter could use a slight increase over what is out currently with boost, and you likely won't want cats because legality gets thrown out the window with TT's.

If TT is in the NEAR future, I wouldn't spend money on an exhaust until you have them ready to be put on, then you can do it all right, at the same time. If it is far enough out in the future, you may consider one of the exhausts to hold you over for sound and a little bit of gains until you do so.

Thats my plan, it's gonna take a while cause basically what I wanna be able to do is drop it off at a shop, say I want the engine rebuilt, TT's added, and whatever else is nessecary (electronics, dyno, tuning, etc.) all at once, so when I drive it away the GO is done and I can focus on the SHOW. My Income to Enthusiast ratio is like 1:7000 lol So it will take a while to save up all I'll need to cover that cost.

LiquidZ 07-21-2009 05:39 PM

I'm assuming this exhaust will be fine with an S/C as they don't rely on free-flowing exhaust like turbos, correct?

It will be a good addition to any FI in my opinion.

gnarf 07-22-2009 12:29 AM

i wonder if berk will make headers..seems like stillen is the only choice...the guys at s2ki seem to like their ceramic coated headers by berk

LiquidZ 07-22-2009 09:47 AM

Just wondering, what is the outer diameter of the stock exhaust?

I have asked them about it, but the problem is the stock manifolds are very efficient so aftermarket ones don't gain a whole lot of power. Not to mention the install is not a DIY for most customers so when you add the cost of headers + the cost of install vs. the performance gain, its not really worth it for most people.

I haven't read through this whole thread because, well it's 31 pages now, so this question was probably asked before.

What are the differences with X, Y, H and true dual pipes, and what are each best at doing? (N/A, SC, TT)

There are 3 possible combinations that you can have on the 370Z.

1. X pipe
2. H pipe
3. True Dual

We have built and tested all 3 variations and have found out what works best on the 370Z.

Here are the differences:

1. X pipe - Allows for greater scavenging between L&R banks at higher RPM. Larger interaction between the L & R banks compared to the H-pipe. Reduces sound and increases performance when properly designed and implemented. Most difficult and costly to produce out of the 3.

2. H-pipe - allows L&R interaction at low RPM but does little at high RPM to assist in scavenging. The H-pipe crossover just isn't large enough to flow all of the gases over during high RPM operation.

3. True dual - no interaction. Two straight pipes. Works well in some limited RPM ranges (aka race motors), generally not good for street applications. And sounds TERRIBLE on the 370Z!

For TT applications, just make your exhaust as large and free flowing as possible. There is zero interaction between the exhaust system and your exhaust port after the turbine wheel.
