Default Played around with the exaust today. Some general thoughts

I installed my cheap test pipes first. For clarification I already had the cheap y pipe. After getting the demon bolts out I drove around with the new tps. There is rasp and it's not the best sound. Kind of like a tin can. I wanted something deeper so I wen back to the shop and pulled the stock muffler. Left the rear pipe open. Drove home. WAY TOO LOUD! It hurts. This from a guy that ran the muffler delete on my c6 corvette. I think the tp and muffler delete is just too much.

Tomorrow I am going to opperate on the stock muffler. Cut it open, gut it and bolt it back up. I am hoping that the hollow muffler will tone it down a bit. Thoughts?

I doubt the gutted muffler will tone things down all that much.

Gutting a muffler will make it louder...

I doubt much of the noise is coming from the Y pipe -- probably all from the TP's.

The OEM set up has a bunch of counter weights and metal shields and brackets that help cancel resonance.

I hear ya. Just wondered if the gutted muffler would be quieter than nothing back there at all.

Nope, it would be a waste of weight, time and money. You can get a pair of Vibrant 18" resonators which would tone both the volume and the rasp down for a reasonable cash outlay.

I have...

Stock Cats
Cheap Y pipe
Stock resonators
Muffler delete pipes

It's louder than most cat backs, however the sound is deep and throaty... not raspy at all. It is just enough to give it a little gurgle...

I have been toying around with the idea of test pipes but I don't want it to be extremely loud.

This pic was taken from Kastley85891 after he gutted his muffler

So, looking to cover my costs and time, it currently is fitted with 2 90 pipes internally, it did free up some top end for me power wise via the ole butt.

What was removed.
hope that helps a little. maybe he can provide some insight

I spoke with him last night. With the muffler gutted and TPs installed it was very loud. I decided to bolt the stock muffler back to the car.

Has anyone removed the resonators before the muffler?

Your going to have rasp from non resonated cheap tps. Now you wanna gut the muffler? Im thinking thats only gonna give you tons more rasp/ a loud ricey note.
So i have some thoughts! lol.
Id put all your original stuff back on or at least keep the OEM muffler stock till you look into a cat delete. AAM Competition short tails looks like a good redemption idea? Considering i see the route that your trying to take. Either way, I just hope its clean and non raspy. I give props to TypeOne, he made it work.

Not sure what you mean by "I see what route your trying to take." My thoughts were to play around with the exhaust and see if there was a cheaper solution to the quiet stock version.

I plan on ordering some resonated HFC and a Cat back as soon as I decide what I want.

Stick with your current set up. With the Y and muffler deletes the TPs will make it unbearable. This coming from a guy who LOVES loud exhaust.

Oh sorry i just posted without knowing your gonna keep your stock muffler. Ok good idea, Now. Removing your resonators along with having a stock muffler? I think thats not gonna get rid of your situation. Resonators are good to have with toning down drown/raspyness. Removing them only will increase flow into your stock muffler. Generating more obnoxious sound. Id keep the resonators. imo

Right. You dont wanna spend a whole lot of money just to get the sound your looking for. This is just a meantime setup to hold you off.
