Anyone dyno'd a before/after with the HPS tubes yet?

6spd 02-12-2011 07:43 PM

someone did on here somewhere and got 12hp in some spots, but i dont know where the graph is though.

The dyno does not have a before / after shot if I remember right. It just had three runs with the tubes, two of which had 275, 275 and then one with like 286 or something. However, the post says he cannot find his baseline so I dont know if those others are the baselines..?

It's a weird dyno graph too, instead of HP/TQ x RPM its HP x MPH.

Just looking for a comparo dyno for before/after with just tubes.

yeah i havent seen one like that yet... shame too, someone should do it.

I have one in my dyno thread...

EDIT: Actually, correction -- I forgot that the dyno of the HPS tubes is after a bunch of other mods were on. Not the same comparison you guys are looking for.

Thanks for the reply! I am trying to get the most out of the car without doing any warranty voiding mods (i.e. tune) and this really helps!

I think I will go with the MXP exhaust. It gives a gain on the stock system, has a great sound, but with a 60mm diameter, stays pretty close to the stock set-up and hopefully wont lose too much in the low end.

My first name is J... and for some reason a few friends gave me the nickname JJ lol...

that was me, they had a problem with the TQ reading so i was only able to get a HP reading. The only # on that graph that matter is the 285. that was my dyno number. The other was another 370Z that was dyno'd there that somehow got overlayed on mine. My Baseline, which I lost on my ohter flashdrive was 273.

I too would like to order these tubes and the drop in filters but can someone please tell me if this will cause any issues with my future smog inspection
I'm currently running on FI with stock cat
Thanks

you shouldnt have to worry...smog is 6 yrs away and its an easy enough install that you can reinstall the stock tubes when the time comes

cujo 02-14-2011 12:51 AM

That is very true!
Thanks Chops:)

No offense intended but I'm seriously doubting that the HPS tubes give you 12 RWHP. I had the Cobb PMAF tubes (same thing) with K&N drop in filters and dyno'd 270whp before and 275whp after with 5 hp gain consistently from 4k up. Not sure why the HPS tubes would suddenly add 12 RWHP for just a bit smoother airflow. How were the outside temps/humidity/car temp/oil temp on the two seperate dyno days?

The first breather mod always seems to net the most power, relatively speaking, probably because it makes an initial contribution to achieving optimal VE, and as you progress, you get diminsishing returns.

I added them on as mod number four, and gains were in the 3-5 whp throughout the powerband ballpark, which is much more likely.

'10Anamoly 02-14-2011 10:41 AM

Agreed, but most of the gains are in the exhaust dept, the intake is pretty open as is with a direct cold air feed too. I've seen Stillen intakes make 6 hp up top and lose midrange so I do not see 12whp for just tubes at all.

5whp is believable though.

I just posted my results on the same dyno where i got my baseline. Outside temp was about 70 both times and oil temp was about 180...Did 3 pulls after my mods (hps + AFE filter) and all 3 pulls net 285rwhp. the 370Z seems to be very consistent. I just got my ART pipes installed awhile back and waitng for my dyno here hopefully this week. If you cant believe 285 from 273, then i wonder what you will feel like when i break 300 with these pipes...am just being optimistic

panel filters, plus tubes, plus the ART pipes (which seem to make a little more power than standard TP's) and even a Y pipe should get you in the upper 290's -- close to 300 on a dynojet... so... yeah, probably.

I don't know if you'll break 300 without a tune using SAE correction, but you should definitely be in the ball park.

Oh, and 10-12 for high flow filters AND the tubes, is definitely believable.
