My new HPS post MAF tubes installed

I got home from a bus. trip last night and my new HPS post MAF tubes had arrived from Corsport. I installed them this morning. It was a fairly easy install once I came to the conclusion that I had to do as the instructions indicated and remove the strut bar. The new tubes are much thicker than the stock tubes and should provide better insualting qualities than the stock tubes, and the look much better, IMO. I went for a drive and It did seem that throttle response was slightly improved, but that may just be wishful thinking on my part. I already have the K&N drop ins so I think that this will be my final intake mod. Here are some pics. The last pic is of the stock driver side tube. What is the purpose of the chamber hanging from it? There was no provision for it on the new tubes, and I didn't notice any negative effects from not having it.

i believe the chamber is for noise cancellation/baffle of sorts..

There's also a PCV function for at least one of them.

The existing PVC lines were connected to the new tubes, but the chamber had no connections to anything other than the stock tube. I am assuming it is some kind of noise reducing chamber similar to what is used on exhausts. I certainly don't think it is going to hurt anything not being there anymore.

I believe it is a resonator. Might reduce intake "noise" at certain RPM ranges. But I didn't notice any difference when I put my Cobb hoses on and took that resonator off.

any increase in intake volume?

Azroadster 10-22-2010 01:50 PM

I didn't notice any this morning when I went for a test drive, but being an old fart I can't hear that well anymore. :icon17:I also have a Stillen CBE that kind of drowns other sounds out, at least to me. I was looking for something that looked better than the stock tubes and hopefully help with air flow and keeps the air a little cooler. When I get a chance to drive more I will post anything else.

I'm stock other than K&N dropins and these pipes, and I , as well as my passenger could tell a slighly louder intake

Looks good but would look better w/out that silver crap on the strut bar
