Default They Work

Picked up a pair of K&N drop-in filters over the weekend. I can only speak for my completely stock 307Z (except for dynamat extreme and second skin). Results were immediately noticeable; better throttle response, more power, louder but deeper exhaust sound. How much of a difference? Not that much but definitely well worth the $120 Pep Boys investment.
Happy driving!

ill add to this thread.i have the tb's bypass and the k&n drop in filters.before i put them in, i blew all the oil out of the drop ins with a air hose, quite a bit i might add too.i also deleted the plastic resonators on both intakes using a 90 degree pcv elbow.i had to get some more hose for the passenger side because the stock hose was just not going to work.

did the same thing to the drivers side except i was able to keep the oem hose coming off the valve cover.keep in mind i also have a muffler delete before i did this.my review is i did feel more response and more power doing it this way.of course i will be putting on the z1 tubes when they come in for maybe a tad more power who knows.

it will look alot better though.case in point.if you do not blow the oil out of the filters prior to install ,then dont expect too much.

I see them for around $45 bucks each on Amazon. There are a couple of negative reviews from G37 owners. Any 370Z owners with negative experiences?

i didnt like them.the oem pillows seemed to have more flow on my 09.i finally did a shop vac test where you stick the pipe from a real shop vac to one side of the filter and see how far away you can get, or how closer rather, before it will pick up a piece of card board.oem filters won.car just seemed to run better with the oem filters.thats my experience.i believe the k&n filters block more flow resulting in a slower flow to the maf and therefore making more power.imo of course.

I've had them for almost 2 years now, no problems as long as you maintain them properly. You're going to find something negative about every product if you look hard enough. The problem with these is that people don't re-oil them properly or damage the filter somehow.

That's not very scientific, and if there is less flow with the K&N, there would be less power. It's proven on the Dyno, not a makeshift shop vac test, which you're not suppose to do by the way since it could damage the filter element.

less flow over the maf results in more power via less fuel being dumped resulting in a more lean condition is it not ?

Less fuel & less air equals less power. Lean/rich conditions vary depending on the tune parameters and is adjusted via the MAF readings. If there's less air flow, then there's less power...more airflow, more power. The A/F ratio is not something static in electronic fuel injector engines since it can vary the amount of fuel. This is basically why people eventually need a tune. It gets pushed beyond the stock map when they add bolt ons that increase intake and exhaust flow.

With a turbo for example, you're pushing more air and in and the ECU will tell the injectors to dump more fuel.

then might as well trash all of the aftermarket intakes lol.especially the ones with bigger pipe tubing slowing down the air flow.

edit;regardless,im not here to argue.you're happy with your setup and im happy with mine.

Apparently you've never heard of a turbo or supercharger then, lol. They're basically forcing MORE air into the engine.

Weren't you the guy that hacked the hell out of the stock intake box for your own "cold air intake" lol. Where are your dyno results btw?
