Default Motordyne shockwave fitment

I was told the end of the y pipe of the shockwave exhaust is supposed to be angled downward by design so people would know how to install the y pipe, and which side of the y pipe was the top and bottom. I would think matching up the exhaust flanges on the Y pipe to the orientation of the exhaust flanges on the test pipe or cat would determine which side of the y pipe was up or down since the holes on the exhaust flanges are not even/parallel and the flange hole towards the center of the car is higher than the flange hole towards the outside of the car.

For people that have a Shockwave exhaust does this Y pipe look right? The back of the muffler sits high and fine, doesn't seem like the best idea to have the leading edge of the front of the muffler to hang lower so it can catch on speed bumps etc. I'm thinking it's a manufacturing defect and the end of the Y pipe should be straight instead of angled down to help the exhaust and muffler sit higher. Thoughts?

Where did you get the info that it should be installed with it angled downwards? I've always installed mine upwards to give extra ground clearance, as I was pretty sure that was the intentional effect of making it like that. The two outputs on the muffler are also angled to get everything "straight" again for the rest of the exhaust.

Edit: I actually went out and looked at mine. My Y pipe is perfectly straight, the angled part is on the muffler and NOT the y pipe. Looks like they've changed how they make the exhaust so I guess my input is irrelevant.

OK thanks for confirming the end of your Y pipe is actually straight. If anyone recently installed their Shockwave exhaust please check and confirm.

They are from older posts, but all pictures I have seen seem to have the end of the Y pipe straight. It doesn't make any sense for any part on this exhaust to be angled downward on purpose while there is plenty of clearance on the top side of the pipe. The muffler is the low part of the exhaust so angling the tip of the Y pipe down so the muffler sits even lower is a crap design if its actually done on purpose now or unless they want even more people to have to buy overpriced replacement mufflers.

I called Motordyne when I received the exhaust and Motordyne told me the end of Y pipe is supposed to be angled down so people know that pointing down is the correct way to install the Y pipe. The way the flanges that connect to the test pipe/cat are rotated and welded in place determine which side of the Y pipe is up or down, you can only match up the holes on the flanges one way, so I think I was given a BS excuse. Motordyne already raised the price of this exhaust so it's one of the most expensive on the market, and claim we're supposed to be paying for the quality. I'm guessing they are so back ordered they are desperate to ship anything they can, and now they might not be honoring the warranty and admitting to a manufacturing defect of someone welded the end of the Y pipe on crooked.

I'll try reaching out to Motordyne again, and we'll see if they can prove new exhausts have the end of the Y pipe angled down on purpose or if they stand by their expensive products and admit I most likely have a manufacturing defect in which they will honor the warranty and send me a replacement Y pipe.
