Default Probably been covered...

... but I can’t find it here. I’t been almost a year since I had Z1 install my Stillen Gen 3 CAI. I remember them asking me if I wanted oiled or dry filters, but I don’t remember my answer. (Sucks getting old)

So my questions are.... can I tell by looking at them which filters I have?

I also seem to remember that the oiled filters can be cleaned while the dry filters need to be replaced?

A quick google search found guys cleaning the dry filters with soap and water too, so I’m not sure of that either.

I’d like to have everything lined up before I pull the bumper off since it’s my daily driver. Any help is appreciated.

If they are oiled, they will feel ... well ... oily.

All oiled filters I've seen could be cleaned and re-oiled.

The cleanable/resusable dry filters I've seen were foam. If the filter element is white(-ish), it's probably dry, one-time (although a good back flow with compressed air will often clean one out).

But I don't keep up with such things as well as I used to, so don't be surprised if all the above has changed over the years.

Lick the filter. If it tastes oily, it's oiled. If it tastes like you just licked an air filter, it's dry.

What if it tastes like chicken? Or fish??? Or smells like cologne?

Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t slap you the next/first time we meet...

Chicken: you hit a chicken.
Fish: you have flood damage.
Cologne: you hit a pedestrian.

How about because I'm younger, bigger, stronger, and better-looking?

In all seriousness, if you run some water inside-out through the filter before you clean it, and you see some sort of color tinting the water, it's probably oiled. Have you looked @ Stillen's website?

You could also call Z1 or go onto your account online and see what the invoice says...

They are oiled filters. Look at the question at the bottom of this page.
